If youβre having trouble opening a bank account, I just noticed that TrueMoney now supports PromptPay QR for tourists!
You can now easily send and receive payments using QR.
No need for third-party apps like Moerata or DeepPocket anymore.

TLDR : Answer Summary
TrueMoney now supports PromptPay QR payments for tourists, allowing for easier transactions without third-party apps. However, users have reported challenges in registration and account verification, particularly for foreigners. Requirement issues include needing a work visa or other documentation to access QR functionalities. Although the app has opened up to foreigners, it has limitations such as a maximum top-up at 7-11 and a necessity for a Thai bank account for full functionality, making it less convenient compared to traditional Thai bank accounts.
if you have an existing TrueMoney account, then you are good to go. .but they don;t easily register new account NOW and there are many background checks before approval. so, the nature of the problem remains.. and TrueMoney overseas like TrueMoney Malaysia (my country) is not compatible with TrueMoney Thailand..
there are places where it is faster and easier to use cashless method. there are food courts in Thailand where they will just accept direct QR payment without the need to buy cash card at the counter, which require queueing. the goal is look for ways to enable foreigners to use the same cashless method as local Thais. so using cash is a moot point.
Sure! But sometimes itβs just better to have options.

In the end it's still a dog and pony registration runaround show for a foreigner. Cash top ups, you might as well just keep the 3000 baht cash from the ATM in your pocket. Nothing is gonna be as convenient as a Thai bank account app overall, even tho they don't work at 711.

The only way to open true money is set up thai driving license. Passport not accepted.
it's either a thai ID not license or passport literally only two ways to do it but go on tell us all how you magically used a license that won't even line up with the scanππππ
Karim Taznartfunny as the app dosnt scan a thai drivers license and won't even line up right for thai drivers license only thai ID card not drivers license
And also funny when you setup it gives you option to do passport as a foreigner π
you can top up at any True payment kiosk (mostly in True shops) and can top up as much as you want up to the remaining limit of your True Money account.
yes. i didnβt find any other useful solution. the locals can top up with their thai bank. and apparently they dont have the 3k limit per transactionβ¦ last time i was holding up a big queue behind me when i did multiple 3k top-ups π€£
So people without Thai bank accounts are still limited to drawing cash out, however they currently do that, and using True Money for scans. I suppose itβs kind of useful once youβve topped up.
yes once in a while it can be useful. you can also use it to transfer money to a thai bank. thats nice. but a few baht fee and if you need to send large amounts then the 3k top up limit is a problem. and i think you can have a max of 50k inside the wallet.
I tried to register for True Money a while ago so I could pay for stuff in 7-11 (they wonβt let me pay with my Thai bank app or Bangkok Bank debit card) but the registration was too difficult.
yes me too. but around august last year they opened up for foreigners and a few months ago they made it even easier and added functionality for us. some people find it difficult to upload a second id (thai driving license for example)
This was pre-DTV. Just saying that true money required more thorough documentation and updating them every 6 months. It then rejected my passport for no apparent reason and closed itself with my money!
I've uploaded my UK driver's Licence twice now hopefully will work this time π€π½...
Not sure it's classed the same as Full banking app but don't mind topping up @7-11 etc or doing a Bank Transfer just to be able to use the Scan pay feature etc
passport & driving licence the UK doesn't issue id cards...
Nor do I really want one tbh

Registered now.
You need a passport and a second document confirming your identity and/or address to access bank transfers (which is needed for QR scanning a grab driver etc.).
I used my Thai driver's license, but they accept a lot of different documents, including a house registration book or work permit.
Side note: you can't connect your bank account to Truemoney unless you're a Thai citizen. And Bangkok bank debit cards aren't accepted, on top of already having stopped working on Grab and Foodpanda.

So pretty useless only reason I wanted it ....
Says for Thai Citizens or certain types of Visa Holders etc

are you sure? the terminals usualy have a very low limit. did you top up more than 3k in one go? or is the βkioskβ a real person that will take up to the 50k limit of the wallet?
I top up at a True payment kiosk every week for over 3 years and often top up 15,000 or more at a time. The kiosk is a machine that looks like an ATM machine.
not sure how you got the account and what type of visa you have. but a year ago it wasnt possible for foreigners to use most functionality for truemoney at all. needed some work permit or whatever.
Most foreigners living in Thailand hold work permits. Therefore, if this functionality was limited in the past it affected only tourists, retirees and others who don't work here.
yes but this is a tourist visa group so how good is any reply that relies on work permits? will it help anyone on DTV? noβ¦ i bet i cannot topup 15k at a true βkioskβ
