My son is on a dependant visa with an extension based on my non-o. We are preparing for him to move to our home country but prefer he leaves maybe December 21 but his extension expires on Decmeber 4. Can he in any way extend it a bit longer without me renewing a full one year extension based on non-o?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user's son is on a dependant visa linked to the user's NON-O visa, which is set to expire on December 4 while the son wants to leave around December 21. The comment suggests that since the son's extension is tied to the father's, they both should ideally expire simultaneously, requiring a full annual extension. It is recommended to submit the yearly extension documentation for the son.

seeing as ALL extensions cost the same amount, there's no upside to actually getting a shorter extension :/ If his extension is tied to yours they BOTH should expire at the same time so you will need to do your yearly extension anyway.. Personally I'd just submit the documents and get his yearly extension.
You could go to the immigration office with him at the end of Nov and explain the situation to them and see if they will let him get one of those 60 day 'no embassy letter required' extensions instead. That'd be the only other choice..
