TLDR : Answer Summary
The question revolves around the possibility of obtaining a dependent visa linked to an adult son who holds a non-immigrant B visa, with conflicting advice received about eligibility. Commenters clarify that dependents can typically be linked to their children only until they turn 20, but note exceptions exist for those seeking to extend their stay based on familial connections. It is recommended to consult with immigration authorities for specific options available in such cases.

Thanks Tod you are correct in your interpretation of my question. My son has lived, worked and raised a family here for the past 14 years. I came to join them as I didn’t want to miss out on my grandchildren. I’m not in a financial position at the moment to go the retirement route so looking at all options to stay here as long as possible. I’m currently on an Ed visa but know this will run out soon.

okay, I think we're confusing what 'dependent' means and whose dependent on who.
There IS a way for someone on a long term stay to have their immediate family get extensions of stays. I know people who are way over 20, who legally work here and have their mother or father on a matching extension of stay.
I would say go to your immigration office with your son and see what they say, OR have the HR staff of his company call the immigration office.
I DO believe there is a way that you can get a matching extension.
