Asking for a friend. He wants to go get a non-B visa on a second passport. The problem is, will they require to see his exit stamp when he tries to get into Laos? Essentially he wants switch passports and use his second for the non-B once he leaves Thailand. He has 2 British passports. (I already know this isn’t possible by land) Any help welcomed.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user inquired about whether a person with two British passports could switch between them to obtain a non-B visa for Thailand upon exiting to Laos. It's generally accepted that one can use the passport with a valid stay to exit Thailand and then use the other passport to enter Laos and apply for the visa at the Thai Consulate. However, caution is advised to ensure all documents for the visa application reflect the passport being used for the application.

You can switch passports when leaving by air, but you can't switch passports when leaving by land. So he will have no problem.

I do not believe you can have two valid visas to thailand in two separate passports (no matter if that person is dual nationality OR they hold two passports from the same country).

The place to ask would FIRST be the thai immigration office they deal with inside the country and THEN the thai consulate they are thinking of getting a visa from for the second passport.

He doesn't want two visas in two passports. He simply wants to leave the country and place the next visa he gets into his other passport. I think, as
@Michael *******
mentions below, it's possible by air. But I am still not so sure if every country will be ok with not seeing an exit stamp. Thanks for all responses which I'll pass on.

... I believe you are correct Tod. I have my Thai visa in one passport and my Vietnamese visa (TRC) in the other. Works a treat but I still have to renew them about every 5-6 years cuz they fill up fast.

I freely admit I am speculating on this, I googled around (in engrish AND thai) and couldn't find anything really definitive..

You could travel all around the EU for years and not get a stamp... they are not really looking for stamps of other countries, just their own. Just out of interest, how can someone have 2 British passports?
Rob *******
Danny Williams ... I have worked 2 passports for 15 years. Just need a company letter or some good justification for a second passport, and you need it every time you have to renew one.

My letter states I need it to apply for visas while travelling for business and for visiting "incompatible" countries.

The easiest way is to write a letter saying you plan to visit Israel and then one of the countries that don't allow you in if you do.

many people have 2 passports. Some countries won’t allow you entrance if your passport shows a stamp for another. So a second passport gets around that.

he uses the passport with valid stay to exit Thailand, he use the other passport to enter Laos by air, then visit the Thai Consulate and apply for the Visa. Return with this passport to activate the visa. Be aware that he inform and use the passport which he will use for the visa in all the documents for the Work Permit and company documents to apply for the visa etc.

I mean someone from the UK could fly to Laos and would have an empty passport if it's never been stamped. You are right, they don't stamp any passports on exit, many countries no longer do.
Matt *******
No. He could have come from the UK without going through immigration anywhere else on the way after all.

won’t Laos ask where he came from and why there is no exit stamp in his second passport?
