This year I have visited Thailand twice for 30 and 22 days on visa exempt. In the next 2-3 weeks I have to go to Phuket for the admission of my kids to a school. So can I visit again on visa exempt or shall I apply for the evisa ?
Answer summary
The user inquires about the possibility of returning to Thailand on a visa exempt status after spending 30 and 22 days in the country earlier this year. Several comments highlight considerations such as the duration between visits, history of stays over the past 12-18 months, and the discretion of immigration officers. Key advice includes having proof of onward travel, accommodation, and the required cash (20,000 baht for visa exempt entry). While views on the likelihood of entry vary, there is a consensus that applying for an evisa might be a safer option.

If you haven't been maxing out your stays and have left some time between entries you should be fine. Have evidence of a paid for flight out of the country, booked accommodation for at least one night and 10,000 baht in cash or strong foreign currency equivalent (silly rule, but oh well). FYI, 0.2% or about two in 1000 people have been refused entry to Thailand so far this year, so it's unlikely to be you. There are still a lot of dodgy people with dodgy intentions trying to enter the Kingdom.

False info ,, it’s 20 thousand in cash ,, you can put any hotel you want on the TDAC

Robin Banks 10,000 baht cash for an individual on visa exempt. 20,000 for tourist visa.

Mark Zorz Wrong, it's 20k for visa exempt and 10k for visa on arrival. If asked with a tourist visa expect to have to show 20k because it is also a tourism entry.

Robin Banks but you could be asked for proof of accommodation by IO. Rare, but it does happen.

I said it's a silly rule because so many people don't use cash anymore. It is gradually becoming obsolete.

Mark Zorz it's 20k in cash for a visa exempt entry, 10k is visa on arrival :)

It depends, how far apart were the previous visits? You might have a better chance by getting a visa this time but there's really no guarantee.

the question you’re being asked is what is your history over the recent years? Not this year and the visits you’ve already mentioned!

this year is irrelevant, it's the time you've spent in Thailand over the last 12 to 18 months that matters

With 3 months out of Thailand between visits and no history of extensions or border runs you should be OK. It would be a good idea to get a visa though, it just looks better to the IO when you go through immigration. Unfortunately even with a visa there is no guarantee of entry, its always up to the individual IO.

It won’t matter, you have the same chance of being let in or not, between those two options.

People may tell you that you will be fine since you didn’t max out your stays, but that is their imagination and it may be right or wrong.

One of the problems with the current policies is that it’s not possible to predict how the individual IO will interpret your visits.

It's going to depend more on your history of spending time in Thailand over the past 12 to 18 months than just this year. If this is your only history over that time period then visa exempt should be OK but the decision will always be down to the immigration officer you will stand in front of on entry
