Hey, my work permit expires and I would like to change to DTV. Can I use my house in Thailand as the proof of residency?
Answer summary
The original poster is inquiring about the use of their house in Thailand as proof of residency when changing their work permit to a DTV visa. The community responses clarify that proof of residency is generally not required for the DTV application. However, there are discussions about the implications of having a permanent address versus being classified as a tourist. Users share insights about needing to cancel their work permits and visas before applying for the DTV. There is some confusion around what documentation is actually necessary, with opinions stating that having a residence may complicate the tourist status application.

Why would you need proof of residency? I think it would work against you

You can get “certificate of residency” at immigration and only that you need for that is TM30 form you can make it yourself literally on any address in Thailand (of a rented house or condo). But for DTV it’s not needed anyway. Usually this certificate needed when you buy a car/bike or making temporary Thai documents like Thai driving license or foreigner Pink ID.

Do you have your own house in Thailand? - Not sure.

There is no proof of residency required. You must be outside of Thailand when you apply and there is a proof of location required.

If you're currently working in Thailand and have a work permit it must be canceled at the ministry of labor and then you take your cancellation document to immigration and cancel your visa extension. If you're on the original 90-day non-B visa then you don't need to cancel it.

whats your question? Dtv is a tourist visa... having a house here can give them the oportunity to argue your a tourist

no they dont, but immigration at the airport can still deny you entry even if you have visa.

The problem isnt getting visa, the problem is the officer on a cranky day.

I would rather just put a hotel adress the first night then say anything about owning a house.

then i guess you need to google some more. Its a reason they only give you 180 days pr time. But you can sit here and argue all day and night about it. I dont care what you think really.
