Can I use a re-entry permit with my Non-Immigrant O-A Visa while traveling to the USA?

Back to the BEST GROUP on the internet for advice:

I'm 6mths in on Non-Immigrant O-A Visa, Stamped in 7/19/22. But Visa DOC expires 7/5/23. Must be used (for my free year/Border bounce) by 7/4/23. I'm all set for that.

Now I find I have to go the USA for couple weeks (Emergency). Don't want anything to interfere with any of those VISA plans/ free year.

Can I simply purchase the 'Re-entry 'stamp, or whatever its called, to use as 1-time out and in? Not even presenting or worrying about my VISA DOC? I really can't afford to screw this up. I have planted deep roots here now and love it (: Any full explanation of this would be greatly appreciated.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user, holding a Non-Immigrant O-A Visa set to expire on July 5, 2023, seeks advice on traveling to the USA for an emergency without jeopardizing their visa status. Comments clarify that a re-entry permit is not needed for the initial exit as the visa is multi-entry for the first year. However, after the first year's expiration, they will need to obtain a re-entry permit for future travels.

and don't forget: after you entered the "second year" of the Non-Imm-O/A visa, you will not have a multi-entry permit included any more. After the visa expiry date, if you wish to keep your new stay permit alive when exiting the country, you will need to buy a re-entry permit

when you got that visa it should have been issued as a year-long, multi-entry type, meaning you can exit/re-enter all you want without needing a re-entry permit until the visa itself expires which you say (is

/2023 <- which to mean could mean july 5, OR may 7 ๐Ÿ˜ฎ )

when you come back you should get stamped in for the length of your current stamp (because that's how long your mandatory insurance is good for)

You do not need to get a re-entry permit on this exit/re-entry

Hi Tod. Under VISA DATA: TRAVEL, it does Say 'MULTIPLE'. So that means I can go in and out on my current stamp, no additional worries if I understand you correctly? AND I'll still be able to bounce out July 4th, come back in same VISA PDF for my free year?(sorry, thats July 5th above ๐Ÿ™‚

yep, once you get your new insurance for next year as long as you bounce out and back before that visa PDF expires (even if it's the last day) you will get stamped in for a whole new year or as long as your insurance is valid for ๐Ÿ™‚

Iโ€™m in a similar position. My O-A Visa expires 1 July 2023 as does the associated requisite insurance.

If I renew my insurance it will be for one more year running 1 July 2023 to 1 July 2024.

The question is: Can you just arrive back in Thailand before 1 July 2023 with the original valid OA visa and the new insurance certificate and this will allow you to be stamped in for a further 12 months? Is that all that is required?

@Steve **********
that is correct, just a new year insurance policy and enter on or before the VISA itself expires will get you stamped in for a new year or as long as your insurance is valid for up to a year

correct, take the current insurance paper that you showed when you entered the country because you'll get stamped in only until that date (unless you have a new year of the mandatory insurance)
