Can I use a new passport for my Thai visa application if I have entry stamps from an old passport?

Hi everyone!

Maybe some of you had the same experience:

1. I have 2 passports. Number one is going to expire in 4,5 years. Number two is for 10 years and absolutely new without any visas and stamps.

Can I use the new one, but provide stamp that I'm in Vietnam from the old one?

2. I had student visa which wasn't closed properly. It just expired and I did border run, so no re entries. Would it be a problem?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks advice on using a new passport for a Thai visa application while having entry stamps in an old passport and concerns over an expired student visa that wasn't closed properly. Responses from the community indicate that it's generally acceptable to apply with a new passport if a cover letter explains the situation, and there is some uncertainty regarding the expired visa that may not pose issues for future applications.

1. I did this a few weeks ago in HCMC. I wrote a covering letter explaining my Vietnamese entry stamp is in my British passport ( gave all British passport details and bio page) but would be applying with Irish passport (gave Irish passport details)

2. Not sure, but the passport I made my application with had 12 months of consistent tourist visas (border run, same day there and back) and extensions.

The number of passports you have is irrelevant. Passports are linked. But generally speaking you have to leave a country on the same passport you entered the country on

1) probably okay. I'm not sure they would even me able to tell that the passport is different.

2) probably okay as long as you don't try to get an extension in Thailand

You enter on the one your visa is assigned to.
