TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is planning to travel to Thailand on a Non-O visa but is concerned about their passport expiring in September while they plan to apply for a one-year extension in March or April. Advice from the community suggests that it is better to obtain a new passport now, as extending the visa tied to an expiring passport might only be valid until the passport's expiration date. Carrying both old and new passports can cause confusion at immigration.

The easiest and most certain option is to get a new passport now. While it is possible to use both your new and old passports, doing so often involves carrying both documents and dealing with potential confusion at immigration.

Best to get a new passport. An extension would be issued for one year or until the expiry of the passport. So if you were applying in March or April it would only be valid until September and you’d have to apply again for a year one using the new passport.
