Thai Elite/Privilege to Non-Immigrant "O" visa (based on marriage)
Does anyone know if it's possible to get a non-immigrant O visa based on marriage if you have an Elite visa?
My Elite/Thai Privilege visa runs out on 1 March and I'd like to apply for a non-immigrant O that would start seamlessly after the old visa expires.
Thanks for your help!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The Thai Elite visa cannot be directly converted to a Non-Immigrant O visa based on marriage while remaining in Thailand. You need to exit the country and apply for the Non-O visa from a Thai consulate abroad. Returning on a visa exemption and then applying domestically is also an option, but typically requires canceling the Elite visa first, making the process more complex.

Please visit counter #7 at Pattaya Immigration and ask them exactly. AI answer: No, you generally cannot directly convert a Thailand Privilege Visa (Elite Visa) into a Non-O visa (Retirement/Support) within Thailand without significant steps, as the Elite Visa is a separate long-term program, requiring you to exit Thailand and apply for the Non-O visa from a Thai Embassy/Consulate abroad, or follow a complex process of cancelling Elite status and then potentially applying in-country if eligible as a tourist first, but leaving and re-entering is often cleaner for a fresh Non-O.
Key Steps & Considerations:
Understand the Difference: Elite is a luxury program; Non-O (Retirement/Support) is for long-term stay based on age/income or family ties to a Thai citizen.
Exit Thailand (Recommended): The most straightforward path is to cancel your Elite membership and leave Thailand, then apply for the Non-O visa at a Thai embassy in a neighboring country (like Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia).
In-Country (Complex):
Cancel Elite: You must first cancel your Elite membership, which involves contacting Thailand Privilege and Immigration.
Transition to Tourist: After cancellation, you'd get a short stay extension (often as a tourist) to sort out your documents.
Apply for Non-O: Then, you apply for the Non-O (Retirement/Marriage) from within Thailand (at Bangkok Immigration, Chaeng Wattana) before your tourist status expires, meeting all financial/marriage requirements.
Timing is Crucial: For any change in Thailand, you usually need at least 15-30 days left on your current permission to stay.
In summary, it's not a simple "switch"; you're essentially ending one long-term status and applying for a new visa category, often best done by leaving and re-entering to avoid complications.
Seamlessly no. You need to leave the country when your thai privilege expires and either return on a visa exempt entry and apply for a Non-O based on marriage at your local immigration office or perhaps easier to apply for it at a consulate while out of the country
haha yes ๐ I don't want to pay so much for another 5 or more years. I don't really care what Visa I have, I just want to stay here. I never used the so-called privileges of the Elite visa anyway to be honest
you can't do it in Thailand at all, but you only need to go to a nearby country. Non-O applications are usually processed pretty quickly so you normally only need to go for a few days
Cannot convert anything, have to leave and apply for a Non O outside Thailand or enter on a visa exemption if you hold a bank account and apply in country.
