I presume it is possible to change from an non immigrant OA visa to a non O visa once the OA visa expires? Would I need to leave the country then do the all process required for O visa ?

TLDR : Answer Summary
It is possible to change from a Non-Immigrant OA visa to a Non-O visa in Thailand after the OA visa expires. You need to leave the country and can return on a visa exemption (if eligible) to apply for the Non-O visa. It's not necessary to wait until the permission to stay date expires; you can apply for a Non-O visa while still in Thailand or after exiting.

Why get off the OA visa, would it be better to renew it for another year

, some people are not satisfied with the insurance requirements for an extension starting with Non-OA. You have to have specific insurance from one of Thai government insurance companies inside Thailand.

Please make your own post if you have anything want to ask further.

Have you already extended your OA for 12 months? If not get new insurance and re-enter before the Non-OA expires and get a 12 month single-entry stamp

If you happen to be in Thailand after the last “enter by” date shown on your Non Imm O-A visa you can leave without a reentry permit and re-enter visa exempt (provided your from a country that is approved for visa exempt entry) and apply for the Non O. You don’t have to wait until the end of your permission to stay date. Just check to be sure you are past the last “enter by” date shown on your O-A. You can apply for the Non O from within Thailand.

not reenter on visa exemption but go to another country and get a 3 months o visa then reenter and after a month and half or 2 get a one year extension in the immigration office where you live

NOT necessary to get another Non O Visa from another country. Can do a BORDER BOUNCE, and on re-entry given a Visa Exempt stamp. Go to your local Thai Immigration office and ask for their requirements for the Non O Visa as a retiree and the One year extension of stay as retired.

i understand but now many offices don’t do it anymore like Amnat Charoen office, maybe some still do. Sorry if I am wrong

that's why we always say to Ask your local Thai immigration office for their requirements for the visa or extension you are seeking. And Yes, there are many that still do it.

You cannot CHANGE an OA visa/extension to an O visa 😕

Yep..

You can get OFF the OA visa/extension, by exiting the country, come back in on a visa exempt entry and APPLY for a Non-O 90 day visa at your immigration office

OR

by going to a thai consulate and buying a new Non-O single entry 90 day visa..
