Can I transit through Bangkok when flying from Sydney to Phuket for Alternative Quarantine?

Question regarding flying from Sydney to Phuket doing 10-day Alternative Quarantine in Phuket… is it ok to transit through Bangkok? Or would I have to do the quarantine in Bangkok before going to Phuket? The reason I’m asking is that Thai Airways doesn’t fly directly to Phuket from Sydney, only via BKK (55-min layover).

TLDR : Answer Summary
Travelers inquiring about flying from Sydney to Phuket for a 10-day Alternative Quarantine must be aware that transiting through Bangkok is not permitted. Quarantine cannot be conducted in Phuket, and it is advisable to opt for quarantine in Bangkok due to limited and costly quarantine hotel options in Phuket.

Save yourself time and money and do your quarantine in Bangkok. Phuket doesn't have many Quarantine hotels since they're geared towards sandbox, and the few they do have are very expensive.

It would be a lot less hassle if you can get the Melbourne flight than flying into Bangkok

Darren Jenkins. Bangkok Airways don't fly from Sydney. If Thai Airways can't do it, have a look at a direct flight from Sydney to Phuket. I think they have one a week

thanks mate. Only direct flights to Phuket I can find are Qantas, Jetstar, and Thai Airways. Malaysia Airlines have a one-ticket to Phuket from Sydney with a stopover in KL. I won’t fly Qantas/Jetstar & Singapore. If you know any other airlines, please let me know. Thanks for your help. Much appreciated.

Singapore air is a fantastic airline. Unfortunately i think those are the only 3 with routes from Syndey to Phuket at the moment.

yeah, I think so. The rules to fly Singapore are complicated. VTL lanes, etc. It’s a nightmare reading info on their website.

I believe Bangkok Airways opened a sealed route from BKK earlier this month.

I’ve selected AQ option in the Thai pass and it says “Domestic transit in Thailand is allowed ONLY from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Koh Samui and Phuket by a dedicated 4 digit flight PG5XXX”. That’s the exact wording.

I thought it was only for Koh Samui, if that's what TP says then it may have been updated to Phuket too.

Darren Jenkins. That's correct. There's two Bangkok Airways flights daily to both Samui and Phuket which allow through bookings which means you can transit through Suvarnabhumi. You have to check with Thai Airways to see if they can facilitate this.

thanks Bobby. Does it have to be one ticket though? Or can I book Thai Airways flight to BKK, and then book Bangkok Airways flight to Phuket?

Darren Jenkins. Has to be on one ticket to ensure luggage goes right through

ah ok. That’s difficult. I haven’t seen any Thai Airways flights that connect with Bangkok Airways. Maybe Bangkok Airways fly out of Sydney. I’ll check.
