Can unvaccinated passengers book a 10-day Alternative Quarantine in Phuket?

About to book my 10-day Alternative Quarantine package for Phuket. Thai Airways airport office in Australia just emailed me saying passengers who are unvaccinated cannot fly into Phuket & that you will only be allowed the 10-day Alternate Quarantine in Bangkok. Is this correct? The Thailand Pass lists AQ Hotels in Phuket, so now I’m a little confused. Here’s the email:

“The Thai Airways airport office have advised, passengers cannot be unvaccinated to go to Sandbox Phuket. You will only be allowed Alternate quarantine in Bangkok 10 days.”

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user expressed confusion regarding whether unvaccinated travelers can book a 10-day Alternative Quarantine in Phuket. Thai Airways had initially stated that unvaccinated passengers were not allowed to enter Phuket and must quarantine in Bangkok. However, several community members clarified that while there are AQ Hotels in Phuket, these are usually allocated for specific cases like positive tests or exceptional entries. Ultimately, the user contacted the airline for clarification, which confirmed that unvaccinated travelers can indeed fly into Phuket and undertake the 10-day quarantine there after initially receiving conflicting information.

Suggest you phone airline locally to your location and get clarification.

This.

If it's an airline rule and they don't let you board, your Thailand Pass may be irrelevant. I'd make 100% sure. The airline may put that rule in place to avoid controversy with a potential unvaccinated traveler testing positive and forcing nearby vaccinated travelers to quarantine (yes, I understand the complexity and irony, but trying to see their "logic")

I think maybe they don’t know. They weren’t aware of the travel exemption to leave Australia until I corrected them on it.

They might be able to clarify if it's their own rule, or Thailand's policy, though. The single-most-powerful person in your travel process is the gate agent that checks you in before your first international leg. If they're not convinced, you're in trouble. So I'd try to get anything in writing that you might need regarding Thailand Pass and rules per Unvaccinated travelers. Also best if you can get an email response from the airline

yes, you are right. Thank you. The airline just got back to me. They said there has been a misunderstanding and and that you CAN fly into Phuket and do the 10-day Alternative Quarantine. Funny how the passenger knows the rules better than the airline lol.

The rule is the rule until the first person to run up against the rule tells them it's not the rule. 😅

Glad you got it worked out

Just checking that you aren't landing in Bangkok. That you are landing in Thailand only in phuket and nowhere else.

that’s correct. It’s a direct flight from Sydney to Phuket, no transfer. First point of arrival is Phuket.

They have them in Phuket, mostly used for people who test positive and people who enter but don't meet the requirements for the Sandbox (but somehow still managed to enter). Should still be able to book one though.

thanks Garrett. I’ve spoken to 3 AQ hotels in Phuket who would make the booking. I guess if Thailand Pass gets approved, it’s ok.

There were AQ hotels in Phuket last year but i think most probably set up for Sandbox now and what they did have were very very expensive.
