Can I still do a U-turn at the Mukdahan/Laos border to extend my Non-O visa in Thailand?

Question, I entered Thailand mid November on a Non O visa, my 90 day stamp is approaching. I usually do a U-turn at the Mukdahan/Laos border for my 90 day stamp. Can I still do that without any complications around re-entry? Are there any new requirements for re-entry at a land border?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user inquired about the possibility of doing a U-turn at the Mukdahan/Laos border for a 90-day extension of their Non-O visa. Commenters confirmed that all land borders are currently closed, making this option unavailable. They suggested four alternatives for extending their stay: applying for a 60-day extension based on visiting Thai family, a 60-day extension based on COVID-19, a one-year extension based on marriage or raising Thai children, or restarting the visa process by leaving Thailand. Detailed requirements for extensions, especially during the pandemic, were also provided, highlighting the need for various documents and possible fees.

No. The land borders are closed.

You have four options [given your age, I'm assuming the Non-O is for marriage]:

1. Get a 60 day extension of stay based on visiting Thai family

2. Get a 60 day extension of stay based on COVID-19

3. Get a one year extension of stay based on marriage/ raising half Thai children

4. Leave Thailand and restart the process.

I recommend getting the extension of stay based on COVID-19 first, THEN an extension of stay based on visiting Thai family after.

Different immigration offices have different requirements for the 60 day extension of stay based on COVID-19, but all require the following:

1. Your passport and:

a. a copy of your data ("picture") page

b. a copy of your most recent visa (if you have one)

c. a copy of your most recent stamp

d. a copy of your departure card

2. A TM30, filed in the immigration office.

3. The forms (each immigration office may have different forms)

4. A letter from your embassy saying you can not return, OR a print out from your embassy saying they don’t issue the letters.

5. 2x passport pictures

6. 1,900 THB.

Different immigration offices have different policies. *SOME* may require:

- The ID card of the property owner where you are staying

- Copies of *ALL* stamped pages in your passport

>can it be renewed / changed to other visa in thailand,

I'm guessing you have one of those Multiple Entry Non-O visas based on marriage to a Thai national, where you're stamped in every 90 days, correct?

>can it be renewed / changed to other visa in thailand,

Yes! The three extension of stays I listed above CAN be applied for the Multiple Entry Non-O visa. HOWEVER, some immigration offices allow you to get a 60 day extension of stay based on visiting Thai family ONCE per visa, and others allow it once PER ENTRY.

I wouldn't recommend burning through your 60 day extension of stay based on visiting Thai Family UNLESS you're ready to get a one year extension of stay based on marriage/ raising half-Thai children.

To get a 60 day extension of stay based on visiting Thai family, you will need the following:

1. Your passport and a copy of:

- Your data ("picture") page

- Your Non-O visa

- Your entry stamp

- Your departure card

2. Your wife OR your half-Thai child PHYSICALLY next to you, and

- Her ID card and a copy of her ID card [for Thai wife]

- Her housebook, and a copy of the first page [for Thai wife]

- The child's birth certificate [for half-Thai child]

- The child's house book [for half-Thai child]

3. Marriage certificate (either the rose border certificate, OR a translated copy from your home country) [For Thai wife]

4. The application form

5. 2x passport pictures

6. 1,900 THB for the processing fee.

Different immigration offices have different requirements, and this may include:

- A copy of the TM30 filed where you live

- Rental contract (if renting property or a condo)

I have now the stamp until 21.4. and flight out on 17.6. so I only need 60 days more. Does the 60 days start from the old stamp or on the day I go to immigration?

For the 60 day extension of stay based on visiting Thai family, its ADDED to your current stamp (so it'll be April 21 + 60 days).

For the 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19, MOST immigration offices start the stamp on the day you get it.

The biggest complication is the fact that all land borders are closed
