Prior to Covid, bouncing into Laos and back for a refreshed tourist visa was easy and effective.

Is the border open now? Is it possible to enter Laos for a stamp and then reenter Thailand for 30 days?

I have a 1 year lease on an apartment until May. But at my last meeting with immigration, the officer told me I wouldnt be granted another extension of my nonB visa. That was before the program of 60 day extensions was extended fro. Dec. 31, '21 to Jan 25, '22.

Im hoping to appeal to his mercy for another extension due to the extra month added to the program, but Im looking for any contingency that doesnt involve having to do a round trip flight to the USA.

Thank you for your time to consider my query and reply!

Answer summary

Before COVID-19, it was common to briefly travel to Laos to renew a tourist visa for Thailand. The user is inquiring about the current state of the Laos border and the possibility of reentering Thailand for a 30-day visa extension. They hold a one-year lease and were previously informed by immigration that they would not be granted another extension on their nonB visa. They are seeking advice on alternatives to returning to the USA for a visa renewal, especially with recent extensions to the visa program.

NO LAND BORDERS are open.

Ask again for a COVID extension before your current permission date expires .... but not later than January 25th.
