Hello. Can I sign up to TrueMoney while being in Thailand on a DTV visa? I want to get YouTube Premium at the reduced Thai price and TrueMoney is one of YouTube’s payment options. Would love to have a proper account set up but multiple attemps in the past did not work.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses whether an individual on a DTV visa can set up a TrueMoney account to pay for YouTube Premium at the reduced Thai price. While some users report successfully creating TrueMoney accounts with their passports and DTV visas, they indicate that payment for YouTube Premium may still be restricted to Thai citizens. Alternatives mentioned include using a Thai Play Store account or making account changes to utilize payments from foreign accounts. Some caution about the reliability of TrueMoney based on personal experiences.

Locals vehemently talk about how shady True Money is. I opened it without a VISA because you can add money, but the app appears to forbid you from using it, although it can be used at 7 Eleven, Lotus, etc. It's not clear, though. I had to go into a branch and after going back and forth saying that 7 Eleven doesn't accept it and the teller wanted me to just leave, he told me I can't use the scan prompt. I have to use the pay prompt. It's also not straight or online what the restrictions and accesses are. It can be used to pay Grab and for Bolt, you have to get their free eMastercard.

It's diff for you cuz you have a visa but all the locals warn against True Money.

Update: My TrueMoney Advanced account just got approved after uploading my passport photo last night. But as someone mentioned, I can still not pay for YouTube Premium as that requires me to be a Thai citizen. I also created a virtual Thai credit card within the TrueMoney app, but that card number got rejected for YouTube Premium as well. Any tips welcome!

I just paid through my play store as normal. I didn't need a Thai bank account or anything. I just changed the region, and that was it. I'm still paying through my US PayPal account. Only thing I had to do was cancel my subscription first, then reinstate with the new thai play store

You can but it wont work. Need truemoney linked to id. You need thai credit card

I got a complete true money (sent passport+ dtv visa). That's the closest thing to a bank u can get. You can do qr codes, transfer money to bank accounts and even get an online debit card. If you top up at 7/11 you can put 3000baht the most but if you go to a true center or to their ATM you can top up

the online debit card doesn’t seem to work for many online services. But
@True*****
is definitely the best option for scanning QR code payments when you can’t get a bank account

I used that virtual debit card to buy a few domestic flights on trip/booking and I have never had any issues. I use it for everything, from paying supermarket/online shopping/bank transfer and so on.

If you really need a virtual Thai debit card, then it's certainly worth checking out...

there is also deep pocket. A thai company that allows tourists to use QR, even for small shops

Anonymous participant 243 i know, I have that app. But it’s slower and has an opaque fee structure, definitely not as good as

You can open a True Basic account with a Passport. But if you want the scan to pay option, you can upgrade to advance account with your DTV, select "Other document option" when uploading your DTV. With advance options, you can also get digital debit card. I am paying my Spotify just fine.

Anonymous participant 489 I've had trouble getting them to accept my dtv visa. I dunno if it's the stamp or what but they reject me every time after a few days.

You just sent a picture of the e-visa and the stamp?

Hongthai Mhaii passport bio data and the stamp. That is it.

It won’t work, YouTube only allow payments with true money linked to Thai nationals ID cards.
