Can expats with a DTV visa open a bank account in Thailand?

At the maturity of a term deposit, today I visited Krungsri Bank for the first time since switching from Non-B to DTV. I handed over my passport with DTV printout. No questions asked. In addition, they noticed that my debit card has expired long ago (I actually never used it) and they issued me a new card.

The bank didn’t make me feel like a ‘tourist’ the way some members here keep emphasising on.

you guys don't get it. pay attention. thai law forbids nobody from having a bank account. STOP trying to get technical. the banks don't want you getting a bank account period, convince yourself of a reason but stop trying to complicate a simple no and accept your place in the food chain… hot tip, you’re the food

You must remember most people who comment on Facebook are unhappy, negative f*ckers with no life, and who love to preach doom and gloom to try and make other feel are hopeless as themselves.

DTV is technically not a tourist visa, as confirmed by the immigration department.

Anonymous participant 361 it's a special type of tourist visa, it's called that in the legislation establishing it.

There is no law prohibiting bank accounts on any tourist visa though, Elite is also a tourist visa and can explicitly get a bank account.

officially the government have said it's not a tourist visa, a bank is not immigration authorities and not government run, so they may be confused.

Yep. That's the way it is. All those fear mongering was from misinformed people panicking due to bkk and partially kasikorn closures, as well as just envious DTV newbies who hate the fact we can use the local banking system and they can't
