TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation explores various locations where expats have found it effective and uncomplicated to apply for a DTV Visa. Recommendations include the Thai embassy in London, Yangon, and Ho Chi Minh City, along with mentions of experiences in Jakarta and Vietnam. Some users suggest applying from one's home country as a straightforward option.
Can someone explain why they need a service to help them with a DTV. I found the online method extremely easy.

I applied in ho chi minh - it was fast. My husband got hos in 5 days and I got my dependant in 6 days. We used this: dtvagent.com to prepare our applications. Cheaper than agent. can recommend!

Anyone had experience with Kota Bharu?

London was straightforward and quick - but obviously I don’t know how it compares because I only applied once!
I think you are correct. I had no problems at all in the USA while in the USA. If I were a Thai IO in a nearby country and a application came in with a foreign passport for a soft power DTV, I also would be suspicious.
I've done the non imm o a few times. Again London was great but the exact one that I used doesn't exist any more (OX?) the non imm o multi now requires medical and police check. The latter is easy but the medical is problematic in UK

The easiest, and fastest, is the Thai embassy in Yangon Myanmar.
no they asked me for details of accommodation in Thailand during my stay. They requested this 4 times and 4 times I forwarded the same info. On the 5th occasion I ignored the request and they sent me a visa by email arriving one day after my arrival in Thailand. I faced a lot of questions at DMK, they eventually gave me 60 days exemption. When I visited the IO to get TM30 I showed them the screenshots of my experience. They admitted it was strange behaviour from the Jakarta embassy. To add insult to injury the visa exempt stamp for 60 days cancels out my visa for 90 days . So money I paid lost.
