TLDR : Answer Summary
When moving to another district in Thailand, you must use the immigration office that services your new province. The district itself does not determine the immigration office; it is based on the province. Additionally, your landlord is required to file a TM30 form within 24 hours of your arrival, which dictates the relevant immigration office for your visa renewal.

People always suggest hiring an agent is ridiculous, but I place visa renewal up there with taxes. If you have your funds in place they are very affordable.

especially if you use a good agency.. like the ones who run this thread.

hiring one of the dodgy agencies can lead to all sorts of problems. Always best to do these things yourself if you can

that’s why I suggested a great agency, not a dodgy one

I used a very well know agency and it bit me in the *ss.

I use a well known agency every year for the last three years and never have any problems.. which one did you use

due to Thailand’s strict defamation laws it’s probably not a good idea for me to share this.

this may make a difference. Unfortunately, I hired an agent and used my own money. Year 2 I went to the IM where I lived and they sent me on a 5 hour drive to another province. This is because the agent used this province for my initial visa. After the 5 hour drive the province told me that they couldn't help and that I had to drive back another 5 hours.

best thing you could do is leave Thailand without a re-entry permit, apply for a fresh Non-O visa using your own funds then do the 12 month extension by meeting the criteria of the immigration office that serves the area where you live

I'm O.K. now.

did you use your own money in the bank or did they agent use their money?

Did you convert to a 90 day non-O inside of Thailand last year and also get the 1-year extension at the same time, so 15 months in total? If you did that and both your non-O visa and 1-year extension have the same date, you won't be able to apply for anything on your own. You'll have to use an agent again next time.

I'm curious, what's the reason for this? So if people enter with a Non-O visa and then apply through an agent, can they apply on their own the following year?
Brandon ************
@Ken ******
that depends on the things I asked in my post. If the agent did things that are impossible for a normal person to do, then you cannot get the next extension yourself because your file has anomalies, like no history of required funds, or receiving your visa/extension before they would normally be allowed. Red flag and you'll be sent away

Thanks, I roughly understand. It's fine to use the services of an agent, but they can't use illegal methods. But that seems a bit difficult to prevent? For someone entering on a tourist visa and later wanting to switch to a Non-O visa, they likely wouldn't know the agent's methods might be illegal. Furthermore, if it's so easy to spot visa issues, wouldn't it also be easy to spot dishonest issuing offices? Hmm... am I overthinking things?😅

did you apply for your first visa yourself or did you use an agent?

You must use the immigration office that services the province you live in (the district is irrelevant).

When you move, your landlord must file a TM30 within 24 hours of your arrival. The TM30 is what dictates the immigration office that you use.

My TM30 was filled (I have a paper docket in my passport, may be that famous TM30, says "Keep it in your passport, next report 5. October 2025". I left Thai July 24 2025. It was by an agency. That address, if it is the TM30, I don't even know where it is.

Once I have my Yellow Book, Immigration certificate of residence, I would have to change that, if not before, then upon my next 1 years extension.

Am I chained to the agency?
Brandon ************
@Jim ******
Actually, that's the TM47, 90-day report, not the TM30. TM30 does not have a date to do another one, that's only 90-day report.

If you have a yellow book and certificate of residence, then you would have already done the TM30 since that's something you need to get a residence certificate.

We will fly in about 3pm on 29th of October. Next day, October 30th, I will go with my wife to our City Council (Samut Phrakhan, Bangkok) 10am, it is under 24 hours after landing, to get my Yellow Book and Thai ID. Do I still have to do TM30? My attorney said the Yellow Book is waiting on me, all the formalities sorted out.

I will come in on my 1 year extension (not activated yet, valid for 1 year from September 26. 2025 for a year).

Interesting, I am currently going through the Bangkok immigration and have a house yellow book and pink ID card. We are currently looking at building a house in my wife’s home village in Phetchabun. I guess once we move there I will need to go through the whole yellow book process again.
Brandon ************
@Terry **********
you can transfer your yellow book. Much simpler process. Unfortunately I don't know what that process is.

sounds good, when we go to the district land office I will be asking the question
