TLDR : Answer Summary
The post asks about renewing a UK passport while in Thailand, emphasizing the urgency due to an impending visa application. Comments provide useful information including contacting the VFS Global service in Bangkok for passport handling, the necessity of an initial visit for interviews, and guidance on transferring visa stamps to a new passport.

Okay, I believe that the O/P has an idea of how to get a new passport.

Seeing as it's not visa related we're done.

, believe it or not citizens abroad never deal with their embassy for things. They deal with consular services, which may or may NOT be in the embassy building.

In fact you got a new passport from he Consular Section of the Embassy of Canada ;)

What Brits go thru to get a new passport has nothing to do with their embassy or consulate here though, it's privately contracted out thru the company I mentioned.

Maybe not the consulate but the embassy itself?

you would be mistaken thinking that. The UK consulate does NOT handle passport renewals for their citizens. It's contracted out to the company I mentioned VFS Global.

There are services that will get your UK passport for you if you are out of the Bangkok area.

Google renew UK passport thailand.

Because those services are also visa agents they can't be recommended on the group, sorry. google is your friend.

Thanks Tod, I've had a look at these services already, I just wanted confirmation before I go ahead and contact them.

Cheers.

Am I correct in saying that I would need to go to bkk for the initial interview, or can everything be done online?

I need to renew my UK passport next month.

One last thing to keep in mind is; once you apply for a new passport you cannot travel internationally on your old UK passport. You need to wait until you get your new one.

UK passports in thailand are handled by the company called VFS Global in the Trendy Building on Sukhumvit Soi 13. You work thru this website, follow the directions and you should have a new passport in a couple weeks

, once you get your new passport they will give you a letter that you take with both passports to the immigration office and they will transfer your extension of stay and re-entry permit stamps into the new passport.

I'm assuming I'd then have to get my current visa transferred over?
