Was wondering if someone could give me some advice.

I have dtv Muay Thai visa from Chiang mai I went to couple sessions at start of year on first entry then travelled to Koh Samui and surrounding islands and trained some more, I didn’t manage to complete the 6 month course in Chiang mai I left after three months in Thailand, but from my understanding the course is now expired, I plan to go back to Koh samui but can I purchase a block of training with a gym there as proof of ongoing training and will this be fine for re entry?

Thanks.
Answer summary
The user has a DTV Muay Thai visa and is seeking advice about re-entry into Thailand after the expiration of their training course in Chiang Mai. Several commenters clarify that the DTV visa is valid for 5 years and not tied to the completion of the initial gym course. They suggest that proof of new training in Koh Samui is not needed for re-entry but is essential for extending the visa. It's recommended to book training in advance, keep receipts, and document attendance to ensure compliance with immigration requirements.

You're fine for re-entry - you don't need new proof to get back in.

*DTV is not tied to that one Chiang Mai gym expiring.*

Your DTV is a 5 year visa. Once issued, immigration at BKK / Samui Airport does NOT check if you finished your 6 month course. They see valid DTV, they stamp 180 days. No one at border asks for gym letter on return - that's only for extension at immigration inside Thailand.

So for your flight back to Samui: just DTV eVisa + TDAC. You're good.

*Where you do need proof:*

1. If you want to extend your 180 day stamp to +180 days at Koh Samui Immigration (for 360 days total per entry) - they WILL ask for ongoing training proof. An expired Chiang Mai course won't work.

2. If you apply for a new DTV in 5 years.

*For your situation - moving to Samui:*

Yes, buying a new block from a legit gym in Samui is perfect and what most people do:

- Get 6 month or 12 month course paper - with gym license, curriculum, your name, dates covering your next stay

- Keep receipts + training photos / attendance - Samui Immigration actually checks attendance logs now for Muay Thai extensions

- Don't need to cancel old gym, just start new one

Chiang Mai course expired after 3 months you left - that's normal, no penalty, no blacklist. Thai gyms don't report non-attendance to MFA.

You could consider reading a book or two before your trip. I’d recommend Unlock Thailand by Isla Rey on Amazon, it includes all the info and insights you need. You should check it out. A very good companion 👌.

Today one got denied entry,

Your post is wrong from top to bottom.

The visa rules are for every visa the same: all rules to get it and to extend it are valid / to be honoured the whole time the visa/extension is valid.

No idea why morons like you think otherwise.

Depends totally on the Immigration Officer that review your documents.

You didn’t live up to the reason you gave for getting the visa, why should the IO believe that you will do what you are expected to do next time, when you didn’t live up to the terms and conditions of the visa, during your first stay.

Book for the new school before you leave. Keep the payment recipe. At least that is what other people in other questions answered and claim to successfully have done.

This visa is made to make sure you integrate the culture, just make sure you take lots of videos everytime and keep an instagram just for muay thai as a proof where you post videos once a week/every 2 weeks (even old ones). Also keep receipts of payments. As long as you train a bit you're fine. When you re-entry just book your gym in advance, take with you a Fairtex bag and put gloves in your bag and say you're here for muay thai, don't talk about traveling or whatever other plans you have. If they ask more, show the receipt of the booking for your gym. You will be fine.

and an attendance record from the school

SwiftRaspberry2631 Do schools even keep attendance records? That could be a double edged sword for them.

No hate at all. Now toddle off and bore someone else with your trite nonsense.

I've trained at more than 25 gyms and live and breath muay thai in Thailand for 4 years so I've been talking with a few people on the way I believe. Thinking is not hard for me thank you. Speaking anonymously behind a locked account is not hard for people though, always the ones with private & anonymous accounts. Spread your hate somewhere else mate. Have a great day and stay happy!

How many gym owners do you chat to frequently? Sorry if thinking is hard for you. Off to sell your snake oil at revival meetings. :-)

There is a very good reason for them not to keep a record. As I said it is a double edged sword for them and DTV holders unless it is a requirement and currently it is not.

most of them don't unless they are kind of "modern" tourist schools.

How about if the IO says it does??

Nothing I have seen posted means you are tied to the original gym. Go for it. The majority entering have zero booked after first booked course finished although it was an issue for one entrant this week.

correct me I am wrong, but two citizens of from what I remember ex-soviet states entering through Phuket had their gyms rung up and it was evident that they had not been attending their classes which resulted in denial of entry. This is always a risk, albeit low, if you have not been attending the classes as specified on your DTV. But now the course has expired, it's new territory.
