Hello, I have couple of questions re DTV.

I am looking at this visa with the view of living in Hua Hin. I think Muay Thai is my best option with this visa.. I'm only wanting to do the 6 months from a Muay Thai dtv centre in Hua Hin (yet enjoy the 5 yr long term stay part), however after doing the border bounce will I have to show further enrolment every time I have to leave Thailand when I come back? Or will I get through immigration no problems just with the DTV stamp on passport?

Do I need to have all bank statements and other documents with me everytime I do a border bounce, or is the passport enough?

And lastly, is there a minimum number of times I have to attend Muay THai DTV run courses? Im not really into fighting sports at all, like being active and fit though.
Answer summary
The user inquires about the requirements for the DTV visa while planning to live in Hua Hin and train in Muay Thai. Key points from responses indicate that there is no mandatory requirement to show continued enrollment or financial documentation upon re-entering Thailand with the DTV stamp. However, while it's generally accepted that one can enjoy a long-term stay, the visa's validity and compliance with regulations related to training remain important topics of discussion among community members. Some express concerns about the implications of issuing longer visas for short training courses.

No problem. That's what I've been doing for nearly two years already. I'm trading stocks for income now, perfectly legal with the DTV. You're allowed to work remotely if you applied via soft power.

I've asked in my local Immigration Office if I have to reapply via workation. They said no need you already have a DTV. 👍

It’s because of applications like this that the DTV could be revised or cancelled. A 6 month Muay Thai course is no reason to ask for 5 year visa

why is he any less entitled to it opposed to someone working remotely? He isn’t !

You apply for a visa with a special purpose, that means rules and requirements of that type of visa should be followed.

Applying for visa A and then say you can use it as if it was visa B just does not work.

Someone doing remote work also is not entitled to use the visa when the job ends, so no different.

Exactly. This fella looks like another pensioner with a hatred for the DTV. How sad.

You are the one telling fairy tales, and I will keep telling you spread misinformation as long as you keep doing that.

So when you don't like my comments, just stop spreading your misinformation or come up with proof that your fairy tales are reality.

Your comment perfectly shows your ignorance, keep on dreaming.

Why should I hate DTV? I will use it as long as I work, after that I will apply for retirement.

Then you better tell Thailand's MoFA. They've been issuing DTVs for 6 months courses since 15 July 2024.

@Khun *****
They do not issue a 5 year visa for a 6 month training.

You are only allowed to use the visa as long as your training lasts, but for some people like you that seams difficult to understand.

That they at application time not can ask for proof for the full 5 years is just because that is not reasonable.

That they start asking for your intentions after 6 months should be an indication they want you to continue the training or not using the visa anymore.

I've asked in my local Immigration office and they've said no need to reapply. You already have a DTV which allows remote work 👍

As long as you comply with the requirements your DTV is valid to enter, but as you describe it is not valid at the moment for you because you are not enrolled in any softpower training.

Well my DTV is valid until August 2029 so they do. Thanks for sharing your opinion on the DTV that's very interesting.

it will change. Yes that has been the case but it won’t continue. Expect to see more 6-month visas issued.

As many times acknowledged in this group"

SHOW your printed out and laminated DTV, that is enough to shut up every Thai Immigration Officer and turn them into humble stamping machines.

With a DTV in hand you are superior to every Thai law.

For those in the real world, why would you apply for a max 6 months course to live 6 years in Thailand, what are you going to do the other 5,5 years?

How to support yourself without working during these 6 years

he gets confused with Non Immigrant visas and isn't aware the DTV is a tourist visa. Block him if you don't want your posts spammed with nonsense.

@Mason ******
It more looks like YOU are getting confused. DTV is a visa issued for the purpose of following a soft power activity or being remote worker.

That means you should be in one of those two categories or dependant from someone having DTV.

Of course you can gamble that they do not discover you not be in those categories because there are not too much checks.

You never used the website and applied for the visa.

BUT take your time again to find tourism as one of the purposes for this visa.

BrightKangaroo1294 Why? Is the truth unconvenient to hear?
@Robert ******
just describes what DTV is, a visa for remote workers and softpower.

Not being one of those categories is just abusing the visa.

OP
@Robert ******
the dtv Muay Thai takes 6 months, the rest of the 4.5 yrs would be time walking, cycling, expat catch ups, relaxing 😎 dinners out, enjoying life mate.
Luit *****************

Anonieme deelnemer What you describe is just abusing the visa, maybe you get away with it, maybe not.

But this kind of "use" is the reason why embassies have to think about questions and proof to filter out these applicants, making it more and more difficult for legitimate applicants.

That is exactly my case - I work with investments and I make ok money. It would be certainly enough to live in Thailand all this time, but it is not employment. At the same time, buying the Thai Elite Visa seems a bad deal. There is quite a lot of people who live off other investment as well such as rental income - enough to cover the 5 years, but if it is not a lot of money. Let's say, your rental income is 1500 USD per month, you are in sort of a limbo that you can't get a workcation DTV (because you don't work remotely), while you can financially and definitely should spend most of the time in Thailand, but still the Elite visa is too expensive for you and you might be not old enough for the retirement visa.

@Jos ******
Self-directed investors get workcation DTVS and rental owners who remotely manage their property with income of 1500 USD or less also. You do not need to have a company to get the DTV. You demonstrate how you earn your income remotely.

Make up your mind before you post.

" I work with investments " means you work.

"Able to support" means having enough financial resources to cover your living costs. Do not worry about my requirements, as long as some money is invested to acquire the documents, the requirements can be easily met, that doesn't mean that one shouldn't strive for optimization. Rest assured that your opinion will absolutely have no influence on whether I will decide to reside in Thailand or not.
Robert *******

@Jos ******
Being able to support what does that mean?

You do not meet requirements to apply for this visa, end of story.
Jos *******

@Robert ******
I know all of this, you are not saying anything new or relevant. The only point I made is that there is a lot of people that can support their stay 5 years in Thailand without working.
Robert *******

@Jos ******
IF you can NOT meet the requirements, do not apply.

And that is for DTV workcation OR Thai Privilage visa the same.

IF you can not use a legal way to visit Thailand for long term, sorry to explain you but than it might not be the place to be.

Find another country where YOU can meet the requirements.

IT is NOT up to visitors to set rules and regulations based on their personal life style.
Jos *******

@Robert ******
yes, but I don't have a company or invoices. Therefore no workcation DTV - as I have read. I would be very happy to be proven wrong here.

Quite a few people have been issued a multi entry tourist visa when the school time is only 6 months long, as the metv covers that timeframe. Be fully aware of this possible outcome with just 6 months of school

@Kool ******
6 MONTHS course of Muay Thai training is most common found in the issuing of the DTV Visa. Less than results in likely being DENIED or a SETV single entry tourist visa or METV multiple entry tourist visa being issued instead.

There is no current mandatory requirement to show continued enrolment, financial info etc. upon arrival, but an IO can ask to see such documentation, but it is rarely asked for. There is no current mandatory attendance schedule of MT.
