Hi - does anyone know if you can obtain DTV visa for cookery classes whilst in Thailand or do you have to be out of the country? Thank you

Answer summary

You cannot apply for a DTV visa while in Thailand. You must be outside the country to submit your application, typically at a Thai embassy or consulate. Some embassies allow applications from tourists, while others may require you to be a permanent resident or citizen of the country you are applying from.

If you can find a Thai Embassy or consulate inside Thailand then apply there.

Thank you. So I can’t be in Thailand but do I have to be in my home country or is any country other than Thailand ok?

depends on the embassy. Some only allow residents to apply while others will allow anyone who is in their country (tourist, etc.). So, you would need to check that embassy’s website. Generally, the Thai embassies across Southeast Asia will accept applications from anyone (some nationalities require additional steps and/or longer processing time though).

It doesn't matter if cooking, remote nomad work, muay thai or underwater basket weaving... can only apply for DTV outside of Thailand. You must be in the country that you apply. Some allow tourists to apply, others only allow permanent residents or citizens.

You cannot apply for the visa while in Thailand, you can set-up the course tho. You must be in the country whose embassy you are applying through.
