Hi all, I'm currently in Thailand on a guardian visa and want to switch to DTV. If i'm planning to fly out soon out of Thailand, to come back in 2 months time with hopefully a DTV visa, can I already start the application now while physically being in Thailand? I can provide all the necessary paperwork showing proof of residency abroad( (in my home country).

TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, you can start your DTV visa application process while being in Thailand. You can create an eVisa profile, upload necessary documents, and save your application. However, you will need to complete the application and submit it from your home country or another country where you can visit a Thai consulate. Make sure to include the appropriate entry stamps and passport pages when you submit your application.

You can START the application, make a profile, log in to the eVisa online system, upload all the documentation required and then SAVE that application without applying until you exit thailand

Are you physically going back TO your home country to apply for the DTV <- because you have to be IN the country of the thai consulate you're using for the application.

Unless you're going back to your country, just go to a nearby country and apply thru a thai consulate once you're there and can upload the visa/entry stamp showing you're legally allowed to be IN that country (that's all they require as far as "residence"

How can they see that you apply (submit) while being in or outside thailand? I'm going to back to my home country in europe for 2 months.

Asking for a scan of all your passport pages, inviting you for an interview (and looking at your passport), asking for your boarding passes, etc.

Yes you can start the process, and when you are in the country you plan to apply through add your entry stamps and passport pages etc and submit.
