Hi, so my school contract and WP are expiring at the end of March and I wanted to ask if I can leave the next day or will immigration be strict about leaving the same day as the expiry.

There is no reason for me to get a 7 day extension as I'm going to be in the country for 19 days after so I'm heading to Laos to come back on a tourist visa.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about the possibility of leaving Thailand a day after their work permit and school contract expire. They want to know if immigration will be strict about leaving the day of or the day after the expiry date. The comments caution that leaving even one day after the expiry could result in an overstay penalty.

Leaving next day of the date of your admitted until stamp is one day overstay. Immigration is strict enough giving you overstay stamp if you leave just after the date changed.

You leave the country before your Admitted or Permitted up to date mentioned in your passport.

As we do not know if you are a visa holder and inside Thailand on the initial 90 days on entry or on a Extension of Stay, it is hard to tell what you have to do.

If you ask your employer to write the letter of termination of contract with a date a few days later than the day you actually stand in front of the class, you give yourself a few days spare to travel.

okay, then you go and cancel your work permit at the Ministry of Labor, with the documents you get there you visit the Immigration Office and cancel your Extension of Stay. Both need to be cancelled on your last day of work, you can do this in advance to make travel plans or wait till the last day and leave that day. If you can not leave that day you may apply for a new Extension of Stay which will be not approved and you get 7 days to leave the country.
