Brandon Thurkettle your comment re leaving the country and forfeiting your retirement visa. Is this still true with a re-entry permit?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation addresses whether leaving Thailand on a retirement visa would forfeit the visa status. It clarifies that obtaining a re-entry permit allows the holder to maintain their current allowed stay date, meaning they can return without losing their retirement visa privileges.

Not sure about
@Bra****
’s comment but a re-entry permit keeps your current “allowed to stay” date alive. When you return you’ll be stamped in until that date.

Can a non-o be done as a multi entry? Or does one have to get a re-entry permit for each exit/entry?
Chris *******

I believe you are confusing 2 things.

I think you are asking about multiple reentry permit that allows you to come and go as you please, yes you can purchase one.

A multi entry visa is a totally different animal that requires you to leave and reenter the Kingdom for the duration of the visa.

@Chris ******
huh? Requires me to leave and renter? On my evisa tourist visa form there was a selection for single entry or multi entry. I was wondering if there was the same on the non o visa...
Chris *******
@Tony *********
yes a multi entry visa requires you to leave and reenter.

Almost everyone takes the single entry.

Otherwise you have to leave and return to keep your visa/stamp alive.

There are specific reasons some choose a multi entry visa.

Yes Non-O visas can be multi-entry in most cases not what you want.

If you want to be able to enter and exit on a longterm visa/extension a few times a year, you need a reentry permit NOT the visa.
Tony **********
@Chris ******
thanks! Not overly intuitive. I would have thought the multi entry would give me the right to leave and renter, but not the obligation to do so.... Interesting.
Chris *******
@Tony *********
yes its not straight forward.

This mistake happens alot.

Just have to keep in mind it's a reentry permit you want.

Which can only be purchased in Thailand after you have a visa/extension.

I get Non O multiple entry based on marriage at savanakhet one of last places to do them
Pertti *************
@Michael *******
they do all over world multiple entry visas you just apply visa and show them your plane tickets and they issue you multiple entry. When I did apply non o they asked my tickets so I just apply single entry. This was in Finland.
Michael ********
@Pertti ************
What are you on about there is very few places offer multi entry non O. I think you are confusing the multi entry tourist visa METV. Why would you need plane ticket to apply for non O visa
Pertti *************
@Michael *******
i did apply multiple entry non o and they asked tickets so.. I have never applied tourist visa.

@Pertti ************
ok that must be a finland thing not all over the world. When i used to get in singapore no flights needed

and the requirements are high for the Non-Imm-O family visa OR the "trailing spouse" visa: "For a family member of Thai, Please submit an applicant’s current bank statement with minimum balance

€ (not older than 30 days) or financial evidence showing monthly income of no less than 1500 euro." . . and: "Visa Fee: 80 € for a Single entry. There will be no refund if visa application is rejected, or applicants paid for multiple entry visa but only eligible to get single entry visa"

@Nongnuch *******
yes trailing spouse and they wanted 15.000 month last day statements for 3 months and I think I send there one week papers and they called me several times including weekend! After all they were pleased and I got my visa🇹🇭 I did apply multi but I didn't have any thoughts going back so I was ok to single and today I'm here with non-immigrant IB because it's far easier manage if something happens and never know what life is bringing future🙏

@Pertti ************
you arrived on a 90-day Non-imm-B visa? Employment? Okay
Pertti *************
@Nongnuch *******
I came here trailing spouse non o. Change that here to business visa.
Nongnuch ********
@Pertti ************
your info has become obsolete. You do not get a "1-year multi entry Nonm-imm-O based on retirement visa" any more from the Thai Embassy Helsinki. You can only get a 1-year multi entry Non-imm-O visa based on being married to a Thai wife
Jan ******************
@Tony *********
Several embassies have stopped issuing 90 days Non O visa with multiple entries, you can buy re-entry and on your yearly extension of stay you can buy single or multiple re-entry permits.

Brandon's comment

"Not quite sure what you're asking. If you have a non-O then you already have a retirement visa. The only thing you can do now is to apply for the 1-year extension.

If you leave the country you will forfeit your retirement visa and will have to start over. You cannot live in Thailand as a tourist, so you either need to return and apply for a new non-O visa at immigration, or go to an embassy in a neighboring country and apply for a new non-O visa there. You cannot extend a visa outside of Thailand."

This confused me.

@Phil *****
what he means is, if u leave the country without getting a re entry permit you lose your retirement visa
Nongnuch ********
@Nigel *************
well, technically spoken, you don't lose the retirement visa. The visa has already expired for use upon the first entry. What you lose is the stay permit that got stamped when you entered using this visa

@Phil *****
Ok. I didn’t see the original question so not sure of the context but
@Bra****
is correct that if you have a Non O and leave it would forfeit the visa - unless you had a re-entry permit to keep your allowed to stay date alive.
