TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the possibility of obtaining a 60-day visa stamp at a border crossing with Cambodia instead of enduring a long minivan ride from Pattaya. Most responses emphasize the convenience and reliability of using an organized visa run service over attempting the border run independently, particularly cautioning against scams at certain border points like Poipet. Alternatives suggested include flying to nearby countries for a quicker, more efficient approach, and using a visa agency to assist with the immigration process upon re-entry to Thailand.

You seem to be concerned about a very long trip from Pattaya to Cambodia, it's 3 hours 30 mins, from Pattaya to the Cambodian border with one stop, and the same coming back, I've done it myself and the driver was quite relaxed, I'm sure if you need an extra toilet stop for 5 mins you would be fine.

Why everyone in Thailand are so poor
David ********
@Fred ********
that's a big generalisation Mr Fred or should l say King Fredrick. Because cost of living is so low in Thailand it attracts people of all sorts. People here seeking advise are looking for a cheaper alternative visa and the new DTV is it but people are confused about process so that's what you get here

Has anyone ever flown to Manilla? I have a friend there I'd like to visit
David ********
@John *********
are you joking or what?? Look on Skyscanner it cost nothing to fly from Thailand? Maybe ask your specific concerns you may get more useful advise ?
John **********
@David *******
I didn't ask the question correctly. I've never done a border run. I have a retirement visa. However, my 21 year old son is visiting me and wants to stay longer than the 30 day extention to 60 days.

i have been working towards a retirement visa the whole time. i just came from a year on a retirement visa in Cambodia but spent almost $20k on a medical procedure in Thailand right before i relocated from Cambodia. afterwards my savings were depleted and had to start saving again.

Why are concerned about not getting a 60 day visa exempt?
Linhof *********
Yes, I drove there myself and found an agent. I saved nothing though

@Kace ******
If you want to avoid the minibus fly but consider paying an agent to meet you and "help" you through immigration. Talk to the agent owner of this group, they'll have options available.

more details please. fast track?? i have asked about it but not heard details yet.
Helen ********
Contact the owner of the group, they are an agent and can explain it better then I ever could. My very basic understanding is that for a fee, they meet you at some point prior to immigration and help you go through the process.

There are agents at the Chong Chom border crossing

and i asked earlier about flying to another country for my very first border run but everyone said things are tight right now. 3 months ago i was living i. cambodia and everyone was saying i could come here and do one maybe two or more while i saved and transferred 800k to a thai bank. now i just need one ONE bounce. but PLEASE not in a minivan w no toilet and one stop maximum.

Just fly out for a few days Vietnam laos Cambodia cost nothing chill on a beach. Then fly back no issues
Kace *******
ORIGINAL POSTER
again you missed the point i said the agent NEEDS minimum 30 days left on current visa to get retirement visa. also even after i put in 800k my thai account must SEASON 3 months BEFORE application can begin.
Brandon ************
@Kace ******
no office in Thailand requires funds to season for 3 months. Only Jomtien requires 2 months seasoning. Other offices have no seasoning requirement for the initial visa.

that’s the biggest question i have is can i do my first border bounce(by air )which will be my second 60 days without fear ??? i am currently looking into also getting hospital appointments for my return and my statement from my last procedure here at Bumrungrad Hospital Bangkok. also i am trying to arrange a Fast Track visa agent to meet me on my return.
David ********
@Kace ******
you post is confusing again. You seem to be all over the place. I understand it's overwhelming but you need to do one thing at a time. 1st priority is you current visa. If you are more comfortable flying choose a place and go for 5 days or more. Fly back in with a new 60 days. Then start complaining all the paperwork for a DTV application. By then most will be online applications so again neat the end of your 60 days fly to wherever you choose to apply for DTV and submit. Good luck don't stress one step at a time

just remembered an expat suggesting hua hin for a short boat ride to ranong w visa agency there. i think i’ll check it out since i just came to bangkok to get the hospital records i had mentioned and receipt for almost 300k baht i spent there last november. supporting documents always help.

my ONLY concern is doing this one round trip airplane ride and getting my new 60 day visa. first week back i will go to an agency and pay the 25k and to h with doing it on my own. but i would like to get a Fast Track agent to escort me back in.and a big H no to dtv! i’m sorry i even believed in that or the other suggestions re doing it on the up and up. tit! immigration wants cake!🎂
David ********
@Kace ******
again you are confusing things. I am not sure what your issue is anymore you keep changing your story on what you're trying to achieve. If you are going to an agent for Non O retirement visa. Don't bother with border run just go see the agent.

i am certainly NOT abusing the system. i am trying to do the retirement visa in the next month even though i should qualify for medical dtv automatically. and i am a disabled military veteran on high pension only lacking in savings because i just spent $20 thousand dollars in thailand for medical procedures right before the situation supposedly changed and encouraged people just like me telling us all the different ways we qualify and will be well treated. i am facing technicalities, such as i can put 800k thb in the bank i was only allowed to open after hurdles at bank and immigration yet it has to be in the bank 3 months before i can use that plus i need over a month left on current visa before applying. more hurdles than that but yeah, tell me more how i am abusing the system and uncooperative bc i am uncomfortable on a long minivan as a disabled senior with irritable bowel syndrome.
David ********
@Kace ******
you can apply DTV. The money can be in your home country account. Like l said fly to a city you are comfortable with and complete the process there. Get a treatment plan from your doctor. Good luck

it's up to you and you have been warned. You are misusing the visa-exempt entry for a longstay. You will be denied entry, so better have a plan B

is have heard lots of comments that if i fly out and back on my own even the very first border bounce which is the SECOND 60 / 30 immigration agents are saying no, lately. i only need one border run and it would be GR8 if it was a flight.

If the immigration officer think you are stretching the goodwill of Thailand by doing another

day tour, they will most often tell you, and let you in that last time, and they will make a note on the computer, that you have been warned, so do not try again for a while.

Specialy if you are a polite and noble guy, who can give a reasonable reason, why you like to visit Thailand 60 days more, and if he is reluctant, say you will leave within 60 days, and will not go for the extension.

i tried asking that at J&E and Mots but they got irritated. every agent seems to only answer a few short questions then get an attitude.
Nongnuch ********
the "visarun company" at least will be a guarantee that you will get stamped in for another 60 days. They will always check your passport before taking you onto their tours. If the company sees by your passport stamps that your chances are nil, they will tell you. If you do the trip by yourself, be warned! You save nothing money wise, on the contrary, if the Thais won't let you back in, you will be stranded in Cambodia
John ******
you could try to negociate with a company that organises the "garnteed" borferruns, if they are prepared to meet you at the border and help you there and tell them that you pay the full price as if youi have traveled with that company

the idea i am trying to explain is i dont want the long ride in a minivan. i am asking if i go on my own to the border town and THEN get an AGENCY that is right there at the border to do my visa process. then i can arrange my own ride back as well.
Nongnuch ********
@Kace ******
there are no agencies at the borders. You got to book a border run with an agency beforehand in the place you start out from. There might be "touts" at the borders who will tell you all kinds of stories, but it will come down on the decision of a Thai immigration officer if he allows you back into Thailand after he has checked your stamp history
Nongnuch ********
you either book the "visarun" company tour in Pattaya, or you try to do the border run all by yourself. You have been warned that you should not even attempt to do a border run in Poipet/Aranyapathet. They will scam you! There is no agency in Aranyapathet that will help you with the needed service
