Can I apply for a 1-year family visa from inside Thailand or do I need to do it from outside?

Hi I entered Thailand on a tourist visa, which I then extended by 30 days as a tourist, then switched to 60 day family visa based on my daughter. Wondering if I can now apply for the 1 year family visa from inside Thailand (just got my bank account sorted) or if I need to leave, apply outside and enter again? Also whether the 400k needs to be in the bank for a certain amount of time as have read mixed info on this. Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The individual is seeking advice on the possibility of applying for a 1-year family visa from inside Thailand, having previously transitioned from a tourist visa to a family visa based on a Thai daughter. Comments suggest that while there is no direct 1-year family visa, they may apply for an in-country Non-O visa supporting a Thai child if certain conditions are met—typically requiring the current visa to remain valid and sufficient funds in a Thai bank account for a specific duration.

Are you still Married to a Thai husband?

What is the age of the Thai child?

A simple border run to LAOS or CAMBODIA will get you a visa exempt entry...30 days. Plus option for added 30 days. Plus option for another family visit extension of 60 days.

Giving you plenty of time to get married to your Thai partner. There's NO FINANCIAL REQUIREMENTS for you to get the one year extension of stay as a foreign LADY Married to Thai MAN

Oh did not know about the no financial requirements!! None at all?!

For the border run, I’ve read in this group it’s advised to get a tourist visa to come back rather than visa free. Might be case but case, but would that be a better option? I’ll be travelling with my thai daughter on her thai passport if that makes any difference

luckily for the LADY marrying a Thai MAN.... there's NO FINANCIAL REQUIREMENTS...NO depositing of 400,000 Thai baht into a Thai bank account in your name.

The simple border run over and back into Thailand... easiest for you... especially with your Thai daughter.

Well that’s news to me, so no need to arrange a bank deposit. I guess I’ll just keep my account open so it’s easier to buy things locally in general. It sounds like border run might be best plan as haven’t had covid extension before, yes
@Ellie ******
not that easy with an 8 month old but it is possible 🙂

Thankyou all so much for the useful advice and helping me make sense of it

, a Foreign female married to a Thai guy isn't required financial proof for a visa and extension based on marriage. IF you are really going to get married to a Thai man.

Many people are advised to get an actual visa before coming back to Thailand because they have an extensive history of staying in Thailand especially using the Covid extensions. You, without those long history in Thailand, would be fine just do a border run to enter visa-exempt.

Or maybe you can do a real visa run that you apply for a new Non-O visa (not TR in your case), but I guess traveling with 8mo for several days is also a hard job.

We are not married yet & our child is 8 months old. If helpful to know, I am currently on a 60 day visa based on being the parent of a thai child with less than 15 days left (perhaps should have looked into this earlier..)

, try to apply for 60days Covid extension first at your local immigration office.

The worst they would say is no, but if they accept, you will get 60days starting on the day, gives you more than enough time to sort things out.

But ask verbally at first before you really submit all documents.

If they accept application but deny it, means they would give you 7-days-to-leave-the-country stamp for 1900thb fee. Under current circumstances, I don’t think that 7 days are not worth for fee.

Anyway just be ready for short trip around soon.

Still married to the Thai father?

So you have a daughter who has Thai nationality? You may be able to apply for in-country Non-O supporting a Thai Child if your current stamp still remains 15 days or more (21 days or more in Chiang Mai and a few other provinces) as of the application date.

Go to your local immigration office to get the latest handout. The link might be similar, but you as a foreign mother, requirements might be different.

You need to apply for an in-country Non-O visa for 90days first, this doesn't require you to have your funds for a minimum period. When your new stamp remains less than
*****
days, you (finally) apply for a 1-year extension. For 1 year extension, you need to have your funds in a Thai Bank account for a certain period.

I let it into the group, BUT there is NO 1 year family visa.

I guess you like to convert your stay based on being family of your daughter but that all depends on the reasons and issued stay of your daughter.

Without basic information it is impossible to tell if you can apply, visit your local Immigration Office with your daughter, both passports and tell them what you like to do.

Thanks, appreciate the response. I think I meant non o visa based on being parent of a Thai national but not quite got my head around all the terms (my fault for generalising). I’ll check with local immigration and see if they can help
