TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about the appropriate visa for long-term relocation to Bangkok from the U.K. Various comments suggest options such as the Non-Immigration O visa available for retirees aged 50+, and the process of obtaining a Thailand Pass for entry. There are discussions about the ease of the application process, particularly noting that one can enter on a tourist visa and then apply for a Non-O visa within Thailand, which can ultimately lead to a one-year extension based on retirement status.

Visiting Thai Embassies or Consulates to apply for a visa is history in England.
If you found a visa that fits your purpose of stay and have more questions feel free to ask in a new topic.

Sorry seems Hull consult is now closed, I done it 18y ago. Look embassy site. But get the O visa first not the o/a visa.

The easiest way and if you're happy to put the 800k in a Thai bank, I would advise arriving on a 60 day tourist visa (easily extended 30 day, if needed) Open bank account, move money, then apply for a change of visa to 90 day non-o retirement 2000THB. Once the money has seasoned for two months, apply for a 12 months extension 1900THB. No additional insurance required for the Non-o once in country, where as the OA requires ongoing insurance for each extension and has to be applied for outside Thailand.
Before coming over, make an online appointment with your Embassy to request a 'Embassy Certified Copy of your passport' it will help when opening a bank account and some embassies have a long wait for appointments. If using a phone to view the UK embassy appointments, select 'desktop view' to see them correctly, otherwise it doesn't work...
Far easier to do it in country than back in your own.
60 day tourist visa, extend by 30 and apply for the Non O based on retirement when you still have more than 15 days left on the 30 day extension. Then the 12 month extension to your Non O Visa.
Gives you time to find a good place to live, sort out all the financial stuff and used to dealing with immigration.

the difference with that option is that then would have to show that the money came from overseas, if you get the non-o at home, then you do not have to show where the money came from

Are you over 50 ?

Then applying for a single entry Non-O visa based on being over 50 is your best start. That will give you 90 days to sort out banking etc and to season the 800k baht you will need for the year long extension.

It is totally branch dependent, but once you ask around, someone will know which is easiest where you live
