TLDR : Answer Summary
The best way to travel from Pattaya to Savannakhet for obtaining a Non-O visa is to take a bus to Mukdahan, then another bus to Savannakhet. It is recommended to reach Mukdahan a day early, stay overnight, and go to immigration in Savannakhet the next day to collect the visa after 2 PM. Other travel options include overnight buses, driving with stops at various locations, or flying from Bangkok or Utapao to reach the destination. Necessary paperwork includes your passport, marriage certificate, spouse's ID and blue book, along with copies of these documents.

Any decent hotel recommendations in Mukdahan and Savannakhet. I've decided to drive stopping off at Saraburi then Udon Thani before heading to Mukdahan.
Once again thanks in advance.

Jimmy. Your wife doesnt need a passport. Just ID card and buy a 3 day border pass for Laos
That's what I ment sorry. She's nipping my head here lol might be easier to go get a divorce haha

well i am no expert in that specific issue but if flying internally you only need to show id card not passport but i am not sure if immigration will ask fpr both at the border if you went the ubon - mkdhan route

She said airport will ask for her ID Card too but that's in her married name
Can I stay overnight in Thailand? Reason I ask is my wife's passport is still in her family name rather than her married name. So would mean me going over the border with paperwork then back over to Thailand to wait till next day then obviously back over again to collect.

Jimmy Quantine Costello 2 days. Drop off before 11am day 1. Pick up after 2pm before 4.30pm day 2. Aura and Avalon hotels are nice and close by
Im sure you can. There's also copy shop across the road from the consulate that does everything for about 100bt, copies/photos/app form and they check you're good to go.
Copies of marriage cert/house book/id card all signed by your wife. Origional marriage cert. Passport and signed copy of main page. 2 passport photos, completed app form and 5000bt fee.
