Simply put, i’m here on exemption, i’d like to go non O, i’m old enough, i have the cash, the apartment/accommodation Tm30, also have the monthly income, thai cell phone and the health insurance. What I don’t have is a bank account yet. What is the legitimate legal process for someone who would like to stay longer than 90 days? Another visa type? I’m trying to avoid leaving and returning however it seems impossible? Not keen on using anyone else for possibly getting red taped somewhere in the future, and it’s just more effective doing it myself, opinions? Thank everyone!

TLDR : Answer Summary
An individual currently on a visa exemption is seeking to switch to a Non-O visa to stay in Thailand for longer than 90 days. They have the necessary documentation like accommodation proof, income, and health insurance but lack a Thai bank account, which complicates the process. The community suggests two main options: leaving Thailand to obtain the Non-O visa from an embassy and then returning, or using an agent to assist with the visa application and opening a bank account. However, many emphasize the importance of avoiding agents if possible, to sidestep future complications.

The only way you can get a non O visa in Thailand is by using an agent, the visa is legal I know plenty of people that have used agents to get their first extension then continued doing the 65,000 bht every month for their next year's extension.

You don't mention what part of Thailand you're in, what country you're from, or how long you have left on your current 60 day ???

Probably in today's environment, unless you use a visa agent, you're just not going to be able to do it. It really doesn't hurt to go talk to one, for specifics, and then you'll know. Find one that's reputable, and not the cheapest one you can find. If you post what city you're in, it's possible for someone to recommend one for you.

Do you have the 800k or equivalent? 1st method travel out of thailand get a nonO visa and travel back to thailand with nonO and apply for bank acct and process for 1yr extension......you will need to spend 30k-40k travelling out of thailand and spent some days on accommodation until your visa is approved .......2nd method get agent to work whole process for you open bank acct ,90days and 1yr extension insisst on using your own funds (so you can do your own extension the following year) it will probably cost about 40k-50k but you don't have to travel out of thailand....hope this helps

Your instincts are correct wanting to avoid future troubles. Use it as an excuse to visit a neighbor. Make it a holiday.

You can change to a Non-O visa subject to immigration approval while in Thailand.

Switch to 90-Day Non-O using proof of income then work on trying to open a bank account.

It’s a process, not a stamp on a lunchbox and done.

Like Brandon mentioned it depends on your country of origin. Good decision to visit immigration. Tell them want you want to do and see if you can get some answers. It's a navigation issue, not a just get one of these issues.

Probably 90% chance this person is from a country where the embassy does not provide income verification. Therefore this is not an option for him.

It is virtually impossible to open a bank account on any kind of tourist visa including visa exemption. I have heard of very few people managing to do it through an agent but. As you say. That could lead to problems later. Your best option is to leave Thailand and apply for a 90 day non o based on being over 50 from the Thai embassy where you go. I believe it can be done on line. Come back to Thailand and with that visa it should be easier to open a bank account but you might have to try a few. Put the funds required into the account for at least two months before applying fir one year extension of stay. If you don't want
*****
0 tied up in a Thai bank for ever or at least half of it fir 6 months then start to transfer at least
*****
baht a month for 12 months to get your second extension. You need to be able to prove the trandfers came from overseas. You can do what you like with the monthly transfers but leave the
*****
0 baht in your account for 3 months and do not allow the balance to drop below
*****
0 baht until you have your second extension based on monthly payments. Good luck.

Around the world, the way embassies work, is that you get a visa for a country BEFORE you travel there. That's how the system is designed, and that's how it functions.

Just because you want to get a non-O visa inside Thailand, does not mean that you can. And you cannot. You MUST have a Thai bank account, or be from a country whose embassy still provides income verification. You need to use one of those things in order to apply for the non-O visa from immigration.

You cannot get a Thai bank account unless you already have a long-term visa, which you do not.

So you have 2 options:

1) Leave Thailand and apply for the non-O visa from a Thai embassy wherever you travel to and then do things the way they were meant to be done, entering Thailand with the visa which will let you open a bank account.

2) Use an agent to help you.

income verification is a no from Canada, so, ride out my 60, seek a 30 extension and then re enter on a non O, and proceed! Thank you!
