Can I get a Non-B visa stamp at any Thai border or do I have to return to the same embassy in Penang?

Hi, I need to clarify an important step for being finally a teacher in this beautiful country ๐Ÿคฉ

So when I went to Malaysia 2 weeks ago (to send all documents to Penang embassy and change my tourist visa in non-b) I had an issue, my school was not updated about eVisa and didn't give me some paper so I went back in with another tourist visa.

Now I need to go out again to show them the evisa request arrived yesterday (after so many troubles and lack of help from embassy or evisa service) and finally get the stamp of non-b visa on my passport (I still don't have a work permit but I should get it pretty soon and I don't think that because of this it should be a problem to get the non b at the border, but in case just let me know).

Can I do this border stamp in any border thai I like in Thailand (in this case Ranong that's shorter distance) or I forcely MUST go in the same embassy where I requested my eVisa (in this case, Penang)?

I think it should fine Ranong, please bring me some good news ๐Ÿ˜‹

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking clarification on whether they can get their non-B visa stamped at any border in Thailand (specifically Ranong) after applying for it online at the Penang embassy, rather than having to return to the Penang embassy. They recently faced issues with their visa application and are now prepared to exit and re-enter Thailand. A commenter confirms that the user can indeed exit Thailand, then enter Malaysia and re-enter Thailand with the approved eVisa, utilizing a border crossing instead of returning to the embassy.

So what it sounds like is you went to Penang and applied online thru the eVisa website, (which you say you didn't know had switched to the eVisa online system BUT they did that back on October 8, 2025 ๐Ÿ™ )

BUT

you couldn't stay there until the visa was approved and came back to thailand NOT on a tourist visa, not on any visa at all, just on a free stamp entry for 60 days

THEN

you got a request for more documentation, which you uploaded

BUT

The good news is that your eVisa was approved (y)

You can now print out the PDF from the email they sent you OR go back to the eVisa website and find that application, then print the visa.

Now that you have that Non-B visa you just have to exit/re-enter the country. (you aren't getting ANY visa at the border, you HAVE the visa its that PDF file)

You need go to the border, stamp OUT of thailand, stamp in and out of Malaysia, then show the PDF of the Non-B eVisa when you stamp back in at the thai border and you'll be stamped in for 90 days

Glad you got the visa, it is valid for 3 months from the date it was issued <- meaning you have 3 months to ENTER thailand on that visa and get a 90 day entry stamp. So there's no hurry to run to the border because you're on a 60 day free stamp right now and can use that time to plan a border bounce

Good luck with it, sorry you had issues, but sounds like it worked out

hi, thanks for the answer. Super clear explanation BUT you missed the most important part : can I bring my visa to the Ranong border and get my visa there? From your answer looks like I can't (as you mentioned only penang) BUT I asked to AI and it told me that is ok to get it in Ranong. Please, just confirm me this as it would be an easier trip there ๐Ÿ‘

what documents did the embassy ask from you?

Can you please list all of them? Thank you!

I wouldn't trust AI about anything to do with thai entry/visa/extension information

You need to contact a service in your area that runs to the border and see what they say about using Ranong to bounce out off a 60 day free stamp and re-enter on an eVisa Non-B

you misunderstand how it works

you are not getting ANY visa when you bounce out/back you you GOT the visa emailed to you once the consulate sent you the email saying the visa was approved.

You're ACTIVATING an entry from it so you get stamped in on it for 90 days

The visa is the PDF file that came in the approval email

You PRINT that out and you show the PDF with your passport when you go to stamp back in and they will stamp you IN to thailand for 90 days FROM that Non-B visa PDF print out you have

Now whether you can bounce out/back to activate that visa entry at the Ranong border by water with Burma would be totally up to the passport control officers at the border when you go to stamp out of thailand. You should be able to
