Can a NON B visa stamp be amended at any border crossing in Thailand?

Hi. I have a colleague that recently obtained a NON B visa in Vientienne Laos. He used the Nong Kai border crossing. He has only just noticed that the border crossing did not see his Non B visa and stamped him in for 30 days. On speaking to our local immigration (Chachoengsao) they have advised any border crossing can amend the stamp for him. The nearest border crossing for him is Aranyaprathet into Cambodia. I just want to know if anyone can confirm this is correct I don't want him to have a wasted journey if they say he needs to go to NongKai for the amendment. Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user seeks confirmation if a colleague can amend a NON B visa stamp at a different border crossing, given the current stamp issued allows only 30 days. According to comments, there are differing opinions on this: some advise he can simply exit and return at a different border with the NON B visa for a 90-day stamp, while others suggest he may need to return to the original crossing at Nong Kai for a correction, especially if the visa sticker was marked as used.

Okay now that we hashed out that his non-immigrant Visa was not marked used he can just go to the border exit and then show that visa to get back in for 90 days.

I would have him use either the Ban Laem border or the Ban Pakard border NOT the Aranyaprathet / Poipet border

Thanks for your advice. I have advised him to go to Ban Laem. Can they sort this at the exit without the need to get a Cambodian visa?

no of course they can't "sort this at the exit" ๐Ÿ™ it was HIS fault that he didn't check his passport ๐Ÿ˜•

He's gonna hafta stamp OUT of thailand on his visa exempt entry <- which is what he's on here right now and then stamp IN and out of Cambodia (by buying a cambodian visa on arrival) and then he will enter thailand and SHOW them the visa sticker in his passport so he gets 90 days

I have heard you must go back to the border you got the bad stamp at to get it corrected and have never heard that any crossing can/will correct it

The real question IS,

did they strike thru the visa sticker and write used on it? If they did I would bet he's gonna hafta slog back to Nong Khai,

BUT

if they didn't he could go to the border (which I would NOT pick Aranyaprathet/Poipet) stamp out on his 30 day visa exempt entry and then just show the visa to get stamped in on it for the 90 days

Hi Todd. No they didn't strike through the visa sticker. The Thai embassy in Lao missed a couple of pages in the passport, so I think the office wasn't aware there was a visa sticker there. My American colleague is new to Thailand and didn't know to check. We phoned our local immigration and they advised to go to any border to amend? The nearest border to us is Aranyaprathet. Not sure what to advise him?

Aranyaprathet/poipet has a bad reputation. But if you have a non-b in your passport it shouldn't be a problem. Just make sure they match the exit stamp to the 30 day entry. You'll need a visa for Cambodia which you can obtain close to the exit point

Ok Thanks

That is correct. Many years ago I had to go back to Nong Khai to get a dodgy stamp corrected. BUT, they may have eased that requirement now....
