Super sad, im on thai spouse visa, i accidentally spent 1200 baht out of my 400k thai baht which was left there the entire year to qualify for the 2 months 400k in account for my upcoming renewal of the spouse visa. I realised it only 1 month before expiry that i was short by 1200baht, checked with chat gpt, it says i should just do a 60days extension, let the 400k mature for 2 whole months before i go renew the yearly spouse visa. Guys, does this work? 😣
Answer summary
The original poster is concerned about accidentally spending 1200 THB from their account, which was supposed to maintain a minimum balance of 400,000 THB for their Thai spouse visa renewal. Many commenters provided advice, suggesting options like seeking immediate assistance from immigration, clarifying that the 400k does not need to be maintained throughout the year, and recommending having multiple accounts to prevent future issues. They confirmed that it is possible to apply for a 60-day extension for family visits to sort the issues before the visa renewal, but warned about the specific requirements and variations based on different immigration offices.

Do you have another Thai account ?

If so, then your total amount would still be over 400k. Then an extra bank letter for the second account could also help.

nope...start over...you entered into the two month forbidden zone...you can lock that account so accidents like this don't happen in the future...ChatGpt makes mistakes...

AndyFreedomPeace start over meaning your application to renew the one year...they'll give you the two-month extension in a different visa category which means you can stay and then you'll go back after the two months...some may require three depending on the office...to renew for the year, but you may need additional documents based on the particular office processing the visa...

Young my wife moved with me to the U.S. and she received permanent residency and now U.S. citizenship, Thai dictatorial regime make it so unfair and overcomplicated, I should receive the same in Thailand as her spouse !!!

Petr S. Van Valkenburg I have been visiting TH for about 10 years and was thinking I might like to spend more time there. Not term but maybe 6 months at a time. I told a US passport and have property and permanent residency in Panana for many years.

Is it this complicated to just spend 4 to 6 months as a retired person in TH. I dont want a work permit just an extended vacation. Do I have a path to do this that us not so complicated. I enjoy TH a lot but this just seems more complicated than need be.

Jon Dull as married to a Thai Citizen permanent residency should be issued as in the most countries, not temporary visa for family members!!!

I have never heard of a 60day extension im afraid if they do not see a bit of compassion then you will probably have to start over again and also you could be limited on you banking facilities

John Tidona I did for a couple of years but its a pain. Need to be legalized, lots of printing, extra 100 signatures (not kidding). So just the 400k in the bank from now on;). And not all embassies do the income document.

John Tidona Lots do but if you have the liquidity it is just easier to put 400K in an account and forget about it - saves a whole lot of stress and things like this don't happen.

Have you taken the 60 day Visit Thai Family extension yet because, if not, this will give you the time you need to season your 400k?

You should either have 2 accounts or way richer than 400k, so that you don't have to be on the edge.

Why don’t you have two accounts with the same bank? One just for visa which you do not touch at all and the other for everyday usage. And any interest you accumulate from the visa account just transfer it to your everyday accounts. That way you do not have to get into circumstances you present find yourself. 🧐

actually you do not have to keep the 400,000 THB in your account all year round, after you have got the extension stamped (this will be after the "under consideration" period). oucan take the money out of the account, you can use the money for living expenses. However, you need to be CAREFUL as TWO months before the day you will apply for the next annual 1-year extension, the bank deposit must be BACK to a minimum of 400,000 THB

Nongnuch Kamdee In my experience Hua Hin Immigration wanted to see the 400k stayed in the account for 3 months after approval too, as they checked backdated statements at renewal. After those 3 months it was fine to use. Different immigration offices seem to handle it slightly differently though.
Nongnuch ********
Nongnuch ********
DelightfulQuince9773 these are the common requirements of Immigrations inside Thailand, for the application to a 1-year extension of stay permit based on being married to a Thai wife. Hua Hin is a rogue office.
Nongnuch ********
Nongnuch ********
DelightfulQuince9773 there is absolutely no police order that says that when you got issued a 1-year extension of stay permit based on being married to a Thai wife issued, you have to maintain the 400,000 THB in your account for three more months. Hua Hin Immigration seems to have pulled this very unfriendly requirement out of their own noses. This is the first time in 20 years I read about such a requirement. It is the sad sign of a rogue Immigration office. I can only recommend that an applicant asks his Immigration how they handle their side.

Only 2 months.

Once get your visa. Stamped .

Can spend your money .

Make sure 400,000

Back in account couple of months b4 next years visa.
Nongnuch ********
Nongnuch ********
Leonard Gunner "Once get your visa. Stamped .

Can spend your money ." . . . . . .you do not get any "visa stamped". You will get a "1-year extension of the stay permit based on being married to a Thai wife" stamped. A 1-year extension is not a visa, it is a stay permit. . . . . . There is no "next year visa". Up from 30 days before the expiration of your 1-year stay permit, you apply for the next "Extension of Stay Permit" , you don't apply for a visa
Nongnuch ********
Nongnuch ********
AndyFreedomPeace . . .don't worry, the 60 days extension based on "family visit" will solve your problem. You will probably need a fresh printout Kor Ror 22 of the marriage registry from your Amphur office, and your wife should accompany you, ready to show the blue housebook and her ID card

If you have not done a 60 day extension before, that could work.

They only allows this extension once per visa.

Go to your local Immigration Office and ask them.
John **********
John **********
Yes its a thing, but the extension is not based on marriage like your 12 month extension. It's an extension based on visiting Thai family, in your case your Thai family just happens to be your wife
