TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses the varying experiences of individuals applying for a tourist visa extension in Thailand after an amnesty period. Some immigration offices are approving extensions for tourists who have not used their regular 30-day extension, while others are denying requests. Specific experiences from Phuket and Chiang Mai are noted, highlighting that outcomes can differ by location. It is recommended to contact local immigration offices or seek advice in community groups for the most accurate information and support.

Some offices are doing the extension of stay based on being a tourist, and some offices are not, it's hit or miss. You'll have to ask them or ask your question on a local Facebook group.
An extension of stay based on being a tourist will be 1,900 THB, and will let you stay in Thailand for another 30 days (Post-dated September 27, according to Tod Daniel's announcement)
IF you want to let us know if you acquired an extension of stay based on being a tourist, please make your own post. In your post, include:
1. Your nationality
2. The immigration office you used
3. The type of tourist visa you used to enter Thailand:
a. A 60 day Single Entry tourist visa
b. A 60 day Multiple Entry tourist visa that is valid for 6 months
c. A 15 day visa on arrival
d. A 30 day visa exempt
4. A picture of your extension of stay stamp.
Thanks!

Same situation, I just tried with Chiang Mai IO and they said no.
It'd be great if we can keep this thread open and maybe share successful (and unsuccessful) cases.

I'm going to shut this post down. There's too many variables on why a person would be rejected or approved for an extension of stay based on being a tourist. This includes:
1. Country of passport
2. What type of visa they entered on (i.e. visa on arrival, single entry tourist visa, multiple entry tourist visa, or visa exempt)
3. Immigration office
I can see this post being filled with comments like "yep, I got it" without any other information.
perhaps you could post on a phuket related f/b page then to see what people down there say.

SOME offices are allowing people who entered on a 30 day visa exempt entry or a 60 day tourist visa entry but didn't use their "regular" 30 day extension before going on amnesty to get them
BUT
SOME offices are not.
You need to contact the immigration office that serves the area where you live to find it if they'll do it or not.
