TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around expats seeking 30-day visa extensions in Thailand using letters from their embassies after the amnesty period ends. Many users report mixed experiences with immigration offices, indicating that while some applications are accepted, others are advised to wait closer to the amnesty's expiration. Specific details about required documents, costs, and the timeline for receiving updates on applications are also mentioned, reflecting uncertainty about the outcomes.

Can anyone confirm whether the initial 14-day "under consideration" stamp is a necessary step in the process? Or can we just show up without one but with embassy letter after Sept 11 or so?

I was at immigration yesterday to switch stamps from old passport to new.. and got stamped but was there with a bunch of people who wanted to do extension s with letters and all of them were sent away. They wouldnt even look at the paperwork... so none of them have stamps and all were told to come back after sept 17
They accepted my application after a thorough review - 4 forms they provide, copy of all pages in passport with thai stamps (2 sets), 2 passport size photos, recent letter from embassy, and 1,900 baht. It will not be approved until 17 of September,

I applied for my letter from Chiang Mai US embassy this morning and received it within 2 hours of writing email. I then took it to Promenada immigration office in the afternoon and applied for a 30 day extension. They said that 99% of requests will be approved, the ones they will turn away have to do with an old invitation letter or incomplete paperwork. They were very helpful and assisted with filling out all the paperwork. I return on 17th to get final approval and hopefully will have my date to leave extended to Oct. 26. There are no guarantees but the staff at Promenada seemed quite positive on getting it approved.

Hi John. Would you mind sharing what email address you used to contact the embassy directly? Thank you ๐
It's a Google Form you'd use to request the letter.

Good Luck, report back on whether they date the extension from the 27th of Sept when you go back okay?

I have NOT seen any 30 day extensions applied for with the embassy letter that were dated the 27th of Sept running until Oct 25 :(

There are reports of SOME people using the embassy letter, paying the 1900baht extension fee and getting an "under consideration" stamp dated the 11 of Sept (meaning they go back on that date) BUT no one knows what exactly will happen on that date when you go back. Some people say they were told they'll get a stamp that takes them until amensty ends (the 26th of Sept) and then a new extension dated from the 27th of Sept to the 25th of Oct. BUT no one really knows.

Seeing as there are still 24 days left on amnesty MOST people who are using the embassy letter to get a 30 day "unable to travel after the 26th of Sept" extension are being told by the immigration office to come back closer to amnesty running out.
