Hi,

I posted earlier in the week about getting another tourist visa. I will only be in Thailand for about 3 to 4 weeks before returning to the UK for work.

My 2nd tourist visa is due to expire on Sunday (including the extension)

As it's quite an ordeal to to go to Laos for another tourist visa, is it viable to book a cheap flight to Malaysia? Am I allowed to re-enter by air and get the 30 days on arrival without a confirmed flight out of Thailand?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about the possibility of re-entering Thailand by air to obtain a 30-day visa exemption after their current tourist visa expires. They are considering a flight to Malaysia rather than Laos due to the inconvenience. The discussion involves advice on the entry process, potential ticket checks from Malaysia to Thailand, and considerations for travelers returning to Thailand after short trips.

btw in KL they started to check ticket out of Thailand at check in. Often they don't let you boarding without this ticket. But I am not sure if they still check as serious as before.malindo air and AirAsia had done like this.

Hasn't happened to me.

And fwiw, I live here and own a vehicle and have only entry stamps. Two years. I had a tourist visa for my first entry. I should add that I always travel by air and exit, at times for several weeks, though nothing has ever been said to me by anyone in immigration, even when I do return after just a few days.

Sean. 9 years living in Thailand on visa exempt stamps? Really?

. You've got lucky, living in Thailand and constantly entering on visa exempt stamps. You will surely be pulled up by immigration at some point, but good luck to you anyway.

@Steve ******
yes. "Exempt stamps" is what I meant.

Entry stamps? Everyone gets an entry stamp when they enter Thailand. Maybe you could elaborate, do you mean entering on 'visa exempt stamps'? If so, then you've been lucky for 2 years. Many people would be questioned by immigration and advised to get the correct visa for their status in Thailand

Go to sky scanner.com and type in "from" Chang Mai and in the "to" section type "anywhere". Put in your dates and search. It will give you the cheapest flights for destinations out of Chiang Mai. Yes, you can come right back.

you shouldn't have a problem entering by air and getting a 30 day visa exempt entry as long as you don't have a history of living here on back to back visa exempt stamps
