Can I extend my visa-exempt entry and then apply for a COVID extension before getting a Non-O visa based on marriage in Thailand?

I am wondering if this scenario would work. I arrived in Thailand on a visa exempt which will expire on August 24th. If I extend this visa another 30 days could I then do a 60 day COVID extension? After this I was going to use the 60 day to visit my Thai wife extension. After this one expired I was going to get the 90 Non O for being married which I would then convert to the 1 year extension of stay based on being married. I am a US citizen.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is exploring the possibility of extending their visa-exempt entry in Thailand, followed by a COVID extension, before transitioning to a 90-day Non-O visa based on marriage. Community responses indicate that this plan is feasible, but one user cautions against using the 60-day family visit extension prematurely, suggesting it be preserved. Another advises that it may be more efficient to apply for the Non-O visa directly if the necessary documentation is available, rather than prolonging the process with a COVID extension.

It would work, BUT if the end game is to get a 90 day Non-O visa based on marriage and then a yearly extension of stay what is the reason you'd take a covid extension to draw out the process?

I'd say if you meet the proof of funds, just go apply for the 90 day Non-O visa now. There's no reason to stretch the time here out by taking a covid extension

My only concern is burning through your only 60 day extension of stay based on visiting Thai family. I recommend keeping it just in case

Yes you can.

Looks good to me...just be watchful of the Covid extension ending dateline of Sept 27th for application.
