What Are the Requirements for Extending a Non-O Visa Based on Having a Thai Child?

I would appreciate any advice on my case. I am living on Phuket on non O visa (one year multi entry) based on the fact that I have a Thai baby. I got the visa in the embassy in Russia before coming back to Thailand. Upon arrival to Phuket I received a 90 days stamp in the airport. I have heard from friends with non O marriage visas that they only have to visit local immigration office every three months and extend the visa for another 90 days so I was sure I would need to do the same. But when I came for an extension, Thai officer told me I need to do border runs every three months to keep using the current visa, I can't just extend it locally (well only once for 60 days for family reasons but still). I am a bit confused and hoping I misunderstood something, don't feel like doing border runs at all. Thanks in advance!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about the extension process for a Non-O visa linked to having a Thai child. They were informed that they must do border runs every three months rather than a local extension. Comments suggest that the user can apply for a 1-year Extension of Stay at the immigration office based on their Thai child, allowing them to avoid border runs. It's recommended to visit the local immigration office for clarification and to understand the necessary documentation.

You have an year-long, multi-entry Non-O visa and could get 15 months of stay out of it (in 90 day increments) if you wanted to.

Seeing as you're close to this 90 day stamp expiring, just go to a border, stamp out of thailand, stamp in and out of another country and stamp back into thailand to get a new 90 day entry stamp

THEN deal with getting the documentation, etc together for the yearly extension based on being the parent of a half-thai child.

Seeing as you have a year long, multi-entry Non-O visa, why not just border bouncing this time and get a new 90 day entry stamp

THEN you can worry about the yearly extension after that?

Do you have registered your baby with you as the mother already .?

if they are the MOTHER of a half thai child there is no registering etc.

Well Robert described exact what it is.....you got a non o in Russia , coming to thailand you need to extend it to one year ...it's the best to go to phuket town again, ask the volunteers what's to do , you can extend it here and don't need to go out every 90'days...as Robert described you need to ask them ...

Yes now it's to late, the easy way is just go to the Penang consulate with all the papers again and ask for a new non o best way and directly start the process to get the one year visa

yes thank you I understand now, but my current stamp ends on 13th of December, so if I got it right I don't have enough time now to apply for one year extension. They said I can apply for 60 days extension now or do a border run. So what if I get 60 days extension first, then do a border run when it expires, and then 45 days in advance before the stamp ends, go to apply for one year extension, should this work? Thank you all so much!

which means you have to do the border bounce, unless you decide to apply - anytime! - for the 1-year Extension of Stay based on having a Thai child

There is a big difference in a visa, the sticker you got from a Thai consulate and a stamp with the text Extension of Stay which your friends got from the Immigration Office.

You can use the Visa until the valid until date and on every entry you will get 90 days of stay. 45 days before a 90 days Admitted until period ends you can apply for a 1 year Extension of Stay based on having a Thai child. Best thing is to visit your Immigration office and ask there the needed requirements.
