Currently I have an O-A visa which will expire in September. Normally I go home every 2 years to visit family and friends and renew it. However, due to the current situation being not so good i would prefer to fly out closer to the end of the year when, hopefully things get a little better back home. My question, is it possible to extend the visa somehow?

Thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about the possibility of extending their O-A visa, which is set to expire in September, due to current circumstances. Responses indicate that extensions are possible within the last 30 to 45 days of the visa period, provided the user meets certain requirements. They can either use a monthly income method or consider switching to a non-O visa for potential longer-term extensions. Health insurance is also a requirement for both options.

..how does the monthly income method work?

transfer a minimum of 65K baht each month every month into a thai bank account in your name only from overseas for the preceding 12 months before you apply for your yearly extension. Can't miss a month, can't double up and skip one, it's a minimum of 65K baht every month for the previous year.

you can also check with your embassy if they issue affidavit about your income..

I am using the banked 800,000 method. I believe the income method requires a minimum of 65,000 baht/month deposited to your Thai bank account and that the money must come from outside Thailand. That is it needs to be labeled as an FFT (Foreign Funds Transfer) on your bank statements.

ok..thanks mucho

You can extend your visa using a monthly income method if you do not want to deposit 800,000 baht in a Thai bank. If you are married to a Thai you can extend with only 400,000.

Also remember that whether you get a new O-A or extend your current visa you will need Thai health insurance.

You might also want reconsider you O-A visa and get a non-O visa followed by 1 year extensions.

small correction. You don't need Thai health insurance if you want to apply 'new' Non O-A in your country..

@Ellie ******
Correct but if you use non-Thai insurance you need to get your insurance company to sign the insurance certificate on thr TGIA website. That used to be hard to do but maybe that has changed.

@Ellie ******
I believe that is correct. For an OA visa, insurance can be from a non Thai company in your home country, as long it covers Thailand for the required amounts. If someone then gets an extension of stay in country, at the end of the OA, the insurance must be a Thai company.

@Ellie ******
in Canada the consulate requires Thai health insurance for a new non o a

You can during the last 30 days, some offices 45 days of your Admitted until period apply for the 1 year Extension of Stay based on being over 50 years of age,

You have to meet the requirements and as there is no 1 list fits all over the 70 offices, best is to contact your local Immigration office and get the latest updated hand out,

I have already had the 1 year extension to my visa. So it will be 2 years expired in September. Are you referring to extending it with the 800,000 baht in the bank, or another method? Thank you.
Robert *******
@Rich ******
Yes, I refer to the Extension of Stay based on being over 50 years of age. The one where you need or 800.000 Thb in a Thai bank, or 65.000 Thb monthly income. And a health insurance
