TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquired about options for extending their stay in Thailand after their O-A visa expires, specifically asking if they could switch to a tourist visa. Comments clarified that a tourist visa cannot be obtained while in the country. Alternatives suggested included transitioning to a Non-O extension if financial or insurance requirements for the O-A renewal are problematic, and another option noted was leaving Thailand and re-entering before the visa expired to receive a new entry stamp.

If you leave and re-enter before the visa expires you'll be stamped in for another year. You'll need a re-entry permit to leave during the second year.

Hi Stephen, thanks for the reply-i posted yesterday about my situation, but not many replies, my visa OA is good until July 28 2022, but because i got only 9 months insurance, they started it July 29 2021 instead of the day i arrived Sept 16, so i have to do something before May 1. Korat Immigration said i need another proof of funds and health insurance, i have covid insurance until June 16, i also had health insurance but it expired already. also my funds have changed from the original one i used to get here, but is still above the 800,000 baht required. i am looking at a few brokers/companies here. so are you saying if i leave to say Cambodia for a few days, i can re-enter no problem , wouldn't i still need health/covid insurance to get back here? sorry, didn't mean to write a book here ha, but still confused about what you said--thanks so much for the reply. think i will just go to Immigration here and ask all these questions and then decide what to do.

You're asking immigration about an extension when you still have a valid visa. If your visa is still valid then you can leave and re-enter and get another year. You'll need to meet the entry requirements but the financials were required to get the visa and you don't need to do anything about them now. You'll need insurance like you did last time you entered.

You cannot obtain a tourist visa in country. If you're having issues meeting the financial or insurance requirements for the OA renewal, you could transition to a Non-O extension.
