Can anyone tell me if I can extend my O/a retirement visa , when I entered Thailand instead of getting a stamp for 12 months I only got 9 months due to my health insurance ending at that point , I know I can leave Thailand and get stamped in for another 12 months but it’s not going to be a easy and expensive with quarantine both there and back , if I renew my health insurance can I get a further 3 months till the end of my visa or is there anything else I can do as my 800,000 is tied up in Australia

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about extending their O/A retirement visa in Thailand, after receiving a 9-month stamp instead of the usual 12 months due to issues with health insurance. They are considering renewing their health insurance to potentially extend their stay, while also noting that their funds are invested in Australia, making it difficult to meet local requirements.

To get a year extension (or any length of time really) inside the country you'd have to meet the proof of funds here in thailand & you'd need to make sure your insurance was from one of the 15 approved thai carriers that can issue O/A insurance

Renew the OA insurance and take the proof to Thai immigration and they will extend your permission to stay date to a full year from date you reentered Thailand .

That gives you three more months to consider your options.

yes my insurance is one that’s approved which I will renew when it expires, just was hoping not to have to go through the hassle of leaving and coming back to get a further 12 months stamp , but will have to just suck it up and do , thanks

Well
@Pa**
it's either bounce out and back to get another year stamp; which you can do any time up until the day the visa sticker expires as long as it's a year long, multi-entry Non-O-A :)

OR

bring the 800K baht into a thai bank account in your name only for 2 months before you're going to apply for the yearly extension :)
