My O-A visa has expired before 2 months and I do not want to waste money to buy expensive Insurance for renewal. Does anybody know whether I can directly apply for O visa instead of OA visa without Exiting the country ?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquired about the possibility of switching from an expired O-A visa to a Non-O visa without exiting Thailand. Comments suggest that generally, leaving the country may be required to apply for a new visa. However, alternatives like extensions for those married to Thai citizens, and concerns regarding health insurance were also discussed.

I am here on an extension based on an O-A visa. I will need to show my insurance this November when I apply again. I have Pacific Cross insurance with a large deductible. I like the terms of the insurance and it is slightly cheaper than my US insurance was. Getting Thai insurance can make sense and not be too expensive. I understand that it is an additional expense for many people from other countries. You might want to do this for one year only until borders open to allow you do get a non-O at a later time.

Buy an insurance with a large deductible amount. That way you're covered for a catastrophe and you're only paying a few dollars a week. Much cheaper than flying out/flying in, having to get covid insurance anyway and 14 days quarantine! But each to their own I guess

but to get a yearly extension 'in country'ie in thailand, you'd need the 800k/65kpmnth anyway, i think?

yes...but the OP talks about getting a Non O...which would require the 800,000 Thb in a Thai bank.

If you are married to a Thai you can apply for a 1 year extension based on marriage. No insurance required.

But with all Airports closed I cannot leave the country, which means I cannot apply for O visa directly! Moreover can I just visit Vietnam come back to Thailand on Tourist visa and apply for O visa or I have to apply for O visa only from the Embassy of my Home Country?

Thanks. Do I have to apply for O visa in Thailand or I have to apply for O visa from the Embassy of my home country?

You apply for a new visa at a Thai consulate, you can NOT do this inside Thailand,

At the moment people holding the Non Immigrant O visa based on being over 50 years of age (Retirement) are not listed to come into Thailand,
