TLDR : Answer Summary
Individuals with a Covid Visa expiring in April can extend it for an additional 60 days before March 25 at their local immigration office, depending on their type of visa. For example, if you have a TR (Tourist) visa, you can apply for an extension at various immigration offices like in Bangkok and Chiang Mai. It's important to note that extensions are treated differently based on prior visa status and personal circumstances, and the processing may vary by location.

Do you resolve your problem Silvia ?

Thanks for asking, Richard. I still couldn't resolve. Trying to decide if I go tomorrow to Chiang Mai or Mae Hon Son. TRying to have practical info (and maybe some intuition) about in which office/city there is more chance that I get my visa............

I just extended this morning at the Bangkok immigration office. I arrived on November 30 on a 60-day tourist visa, and did a 30-day extension on that in Chiang Mai (they wouldn't let me do the covid visa until I'd done that extension). I did the 60-day covid visa in Bangkok on January 25, and that was treated as a conversion to a new visa, not an extension of my existing visa, so I only got 60 days from January 25. But today, I went in to do a 60-day extension of that covid visa, and it was treated as an extension -- 60 days added to my current covid visa.

So, not sure how things will look in other offices, but at least in Bangkok, it looks like you should be able to get an extension on your existing covid visa. The one thing I could see being an issue for that is if you have to wait a minimum number of days from your last visa conversion/renewal/extension before you can apply. Like, if you extended on February 28, then maybe it's too soon for you to try to extend on top of that.

Justin Bernold. There is actually no such thing as a "covid visa". These are are extensions of stay which are still linked back to your substantive visa or the visa you entered on. This is why those who were on non-immigrant or visa-on-arrival before the covid extension can no longer apply for a further extension
Justin *********
@Bobby *******
yes, but they do treat the first "extension" as a conversion to a new visa that starts your 60 days from the date of application, so it's a kind of a hybrid from a perspective of how long the extension really is.

What documents are needed for the covid extension? Can I do a normal extension afterwards? I have a TR visa 60 days multiple entry.
Nigel *********
@Hiro *****
must do your normal extension first. What documents you require has been answered numerous times. Try the search facility

some offices donโ€™t make you take youโ€™re 30 day extension
Nigel *********
@Jared *********
Is that since the latest announcement (Jan 25th I think)

@Nigel *********************
I think youโ€™ve always been supposed to but itโ€™s thailand so nothings consistent, depends how many donuts the IO had
Michael ********
Apparently now they are only extending from the date you apply not added on.

@Michael *******
March 25th is going to be ugly at many immigration officesโ€ฆ.

Or..ugly in which way?

@Silvia **********

@Michael *******
what you mean Michael? Not sure if I understood..... you mean if I try to extend today, they would give the 60 days extension from today, and not from the day my visa expires?
Richard ********
@Silvia **********
try Mae Hong song

@Richard *******
thanks Richard. you consider they are more flexible there..? (Than Pai or Chiang mai, for example...)
Michael ********
@Silvia **********
yes from today, guessing they want to make sure end of may nobody left on covid extension.

Think is part of the plan to classify covid as endemic

@Michael *******
oh I see... thank you for explaining that. Makes sense.

You had this info in a immigration office, ir in an agency...?

๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™
Bobby ********
If you are on a TR or visa exempt, you can extend up until March 25 for a further 60 days at your immigration office
Bobby ********
Silvia Wya Poty. Why did Pai say it's not possible? Are you on a tourism visa? The decision is usually that of the immigration officer who assesses your situation, such as how long you've been in the country, the visa you entered on, what other visas you have had etc. It's not an office-specific decision.

@Bobby *******
they said it's because I already extended in February... until April; so I cannot extend anymore. They said we can just extend 1 time in this period from Jan 25 to March 25th.

๐Ÿ™

Then I asked them if this is a rule from this Pai office in special, and the officer said that it is a rule from Thai government....

So I'm really confused.......

Ps: yes I have and always had tourist visa. 2 years in Thailand.

๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐ŸŒ€
Bobby ********
Silvia Wya Poty. The two years already here may be your stumbling block, as they are starting to consider that "tourists" who have been here for such a long time have had more than enough time to find a way home. This is a recent report from another office, so it seems to be a national strategy, although some are reporting they have been able to get one last extension.
Bobby ********
Silvia Wya Poty. There's no such thing as a "covid visa", there's an "unable to travel due to covid" extension, which is an extension of the visa you were previously on. If your visa is either Tourist TR or visa-exempt you can still apply for a further 60-day extension up until March 25

@Bobby *******
thank you for clarifying this.

I tried it twice in Pai imigration and they said it's not possible...๐Ÿ™

You have any idea which immigration is allowing this?

(Closest for me are Mae Hon Son and Chiang Mai, but if it's Safer to go to Surathani or Koh Phangan, I can try too).

Just don't wanna do a trip just for it, and not be able to extend the visa.......

@Bobby *******
thanks for your answer, Bobby.

I went to an immigration office twice, and they said I can't extend anymore....(because I already extended in Febuary, until April 18th).

But I think other people with covid visa expiring in April are being able to extend it lately, didn't they?

And last question please:

You said "TR or visa exempt" - is covid visa included in some of these 2 visas you mentioned? (Sorry for my ignorance...:).
