Can I enter Thailand with a one-way ticket and get a 30-day extension?

I thought I had things figured out but today someone enlightened me. I went to Ecuador for a month, Colombia for two months, Spain for a month and now I’m in Portugal. So far traveling has been a piece of cake.

I have a one way ticket to Bangkok as I was planning to stay for 60 days. Today a member told me I can’t do an EVisa as I’m not in my home country (USA) and I’m not flying from there. I have no idea why that should matter but anyway I’m asking for some help here. I arrive on 3/7 and have an Air BnB in Bangkok until 4/4 which is 29 days. I have NO onward flight because I wanted to stay for 60 days. I believe I can get another 30 days for a fee but how will this complicate my entry with immigration? I don’t want to book a flight out until I know how long I can be there. Your patience and knowledge is appreciated

Thank you

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking clarification about entering Thailand with a one-way ticket. They plan to stay for 60 days in Bangkok but have no onward flight. Comments suggest that while they cannot apply for an eVisa from outside the US, they can enter Thailand under Visa Exempt entry for 30 days and possibly extend that for another 30 days for a fee of 1900 baht. However, it’s essential to check with the airline regarding the requirement for proof of onward travel.

Whoops, my apologies

I did just check the eVisa system saying I'm 'murican but IN Portugal and it will let me apply for a tourist visa that way

SO you could go to the thai consulate website in Lisbon, read the requirements for the tourist visa, show proof you're going to thailand FROM Portugal and you MIGHT get a tourist visa approved

sorry strike that thought 🙁

you have to have legal resident status to use the eVisa system in Portugal for a visa, and I don't think that just being there as a tourist will work

You could contact the embassy though and see, worst they can say is NO you can't apply for a tourist visa and you'd fly in visa exempt

So to recap,

Nope, can't use eVisa system <- saying you're in the US

check with your air carrier about flying in on a one way ticket visa exempt entry

you can get one 30 day extension on your entry for 1900baht after you're here

Just curious what the travel history had to do with your question?

Be that as it may, 😉

Who ever told you about the eVisa was correct, you can only use the eVisa system IN your country and most consulates state that on the website.

AND

they're also right you'd show air travel from your home country TO thailand to use the eVisa system even if you spoofed it and said you were in the US

SO

What you're intending to do is fly in without any visa and get stamped in for 30 days free on what's called a Visa Exempt entry.

AND

you're almost right, you can indeed get a 30 day extension on that free 30 day entry

BUT alas

it's not free 😕 it's 1900baht at the immigration office in thailand that serves the area where you stay.

Now the problem you might have is SOME airlines have a policy that if you're flying to thailand without a valid visa (entering free stamp visa exempt) you need to show proof of onward travel within the number of days you'll be stamped in for (in your case 30 days) or you can't check in for your flight.

CHECK with your air carrier and if they have no issue with you flying in without onward travel you'll be fine once you land here

Just a question? Is it only the Air Carriers?

Does the immigration officer in Thailand has the rights to deny entry unless shown a return ticket within 30 days even if the passport allows 30 addl days extension?

I suspect an immigration officer can deny entry for pretty much any reason they so deem a reason .... 'at the officers discretion'

travel history was my way of saying I’ve had no problems with all these countries but Thailand has got me confused. A bit frustrating
