TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is concerned about boarding a flight to Thailand with a 92-day trip planned on a visa-exempt entry, where they intend to request a 30-day extension upon arrival. They ask if it's acceptable to show a cheap single ticket out of the country as proof of onward travel. Community responses emphasize the importance of having proof of onward travel, which is required by airlines, or obtaining a proper visa beforehand to avoid issues at boarding.

You can buy a Bus Ticket from BKK to Siam REap for about 20 Bucks< (and some are 100% refundable)

Many airlines wont let you board at departure airport if you dont have a departing flight booked before the 30 days is up. At heathrow they always check that i have. Why npt get a visa before you go. Not difficult i wouldnt have thought

Not to be thick or one way but why don't you just put on your big boy pants and get a single entry tourist visa to thailand from a thai consulate where ever you are BEFORE you wing your way here?

That would stamp you in for 60 days and you could extend it by 30 more at the immigration office (taking you to 90)

Hello. Airline staff here. My job is to be on the line when check in calls with passport and visa issues.

Yes, if you have this set of circumstances, we would refuse you travel.

Yes, you need to produce a ticket proving you will leave Thailand before your visa expires.

If Thai immigration refuses you, the airline MUST fly you back (bumping off and compensating another passenger if the flight is full). Also the airline would be fined for allowing you to fly.

Yes, some people get away with it ... well done! Don't count on it.

Would you think it be best for me to buy cheap ticket for 29 days or the 59 days as i ha e no visa just the 30 days when land

It is your AIR CARRIER that is gonna have the problem. Contact them and see if you can board the plane without a visa to thailand and proof of onward travel after 30 days. If they say you can, you're fine, if they say you can't then buy a ticket to another country

Last year I had a 60 day visa with the intention of getting the 30 extension. The airline refused completely to let me board. I took it up the food chain. I bought a one way ticket out of Thailand departing on day 59 - it was cheap on airasia. Then they let me board. The 60 day visa was worthless for boarding the flight

Unless you have a history of living here on back-2-back visa exempt or tourist visa entries you should skate right thru passport control without the need to show proof of onward travel ..

you're going to have far more problem boarding your flight to get here without a visa in your passport and your proof of onward travel 90 days out than you will IF you get on the plane and land here at passport control
