Hello All.... Am I correct in believing that I can still enter Thailand on 30 day visa exemption stamp, which can then be extended by a further 30 days....? If this can then be followed by two land border runs it would give a total of 4 months....? Or is there something I've missed....? (This approach might be a better option for me than the six month ME visa which would require me to have travel plans fixed in advance...)

TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, you can enter Thailand on a 30-day visa exemption stamp, which can be extended for an additional 30 days at an immigration office. Following this, you can perform one land border run to gain another 30-day stamp, allowing for a total stay of up to four months. However, be aware that airlines may require proof of an outbound ticket when you check in. It is also important to consider the risks involved, as entry on border runs can sometimes be denied.
Something missed may be that your airline will not let board if you don’t have a ticket out within the initial days allowed (30). Regardless that you could get an in country extension or border bounce.
It might be a better approach in your mind but also risks you getting refused entry on one of your border runs. Much better to start with the appropriate visa.
