I just arrived with a 30 day tourist stamp (USA passport ). I plan to buy a 30 day extension from immigration in Chiang Mai.

At the end of the extension can I make the border run to Myanmar and get another 30 day tourist stamp?

Thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A traveler with a 30-day tourist stamp in Thailand can extend their stay by purchasing a 30-day extension from local immigration services. After the extension period, they can perform a border run to Myanmar to obtain another 30-day tourist stamp, as each Visa Exempt Entry can be extended once. Travelers are allowed to make two border runs per calendar year to acquire new Visa Exempt entries.

Why didn’t you just pay the $200 for the 6 month METV

It's 60 days plus eligible for a 30 day extension for 1,900฿, so people can stay a total of 90 days without having to worry about leaving the country

Jeremy Miller but you still need to leave Thailand after 90 days. so if your deciding to just stay and not travel anywhere that would make the SETV easier to obtain

Yes, but lots of people have problem with providing the bank statement. I think you need to show at least $7,000.

A lot of documentation is required to get approved for that. Bank statement showing sufficient funds, letter from employer. Lots of stuff not everyone can provide, so the SETV is much less hassle for the same amount of 90 days before leaving

Or get a tourist visa at Laos if you want to stay longer. 60 + 30 = 90 days.

Yes, you can do. Each Visa Exempt Entry can be extended with 30 days once at local Immigration. You can make 2 border runs a calendar year to get a new Visa Exempt entry.
