Hi all. If at the end of a eight months in the Kingdom, can I simply exit and enter again via an airport for a final 30 day stay? Or do I need to get a formal visa?

TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, you can exit Thailand after an eight-month stay and re-enter for a final 30-day stay using a visa exemption stamp. This can be done either by flying out and returning or by using a land border crossing. However, it's advisable to carry 20,000 baht or equivalent in cash as you might be subject to checks upon re-entry.

Whichever way you do it, carry 20,000 baht/equivalent in cash with you. With 8 months stay you might get pulled for a check. It mostly never happens but better to be prepared.

you don't need to fly out and back in you could use a land border crossing too.

@Sh***
, yes it is (y) Since Aug 2014 people who enter on a 30 day visa exempt entry have been able to apply for a 30 day extension at the immigration office for 1900baht.

After crossing a land border and getting 30 days stamp then is it possible to extend at immigration for a further 30 days???????

@Ald***
, people from 44 countries are allowed to get TWO 30 day visa exempt stamps in a calendar year by land border crossings.

Some border crossings ask for proof of funds when stamping in (especially those in the south) but most don't.

Are you sure
@Tod ********
? I’ve heard you cannot get a stamp upon arrival on the border, or that they likely to say no ...maybe I heard wrong.

Yes you can fly out for a day and get a 30 day stamp on arrival when you return back in Thailand. I’ve done this no problem in Kuala Lumpur

You could exit/re-enter and get a 30 day visa exempt entry if you wanted to.

You might be questioned by passport control comin' back in, but most likely you won't be.
