Hi all. How many times in a year can one enter Thailand by any means of transport in total (flight, land, sea). Is there a limited amount? I only know you can do 2 border crossings by land. Thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
There is generally no limit to the number of times you can enter Thailand by air. However, for land border crossings, there's a limit of two per calendar year if entering without a visa under the Visa Exempt Entry from certain countries. While variations exist based on the immigration officer's discretion, multiple entries via air are typically allowed. Other factors, such as unfair limitations for specific nationalities, have also been discussed among the community.

Does parachuting into Thailand count as land or air?

Arrest. Jail. Deportation. So land I guess

You can cross the border as many times as you like.

What you're probably talking about is the visitor visa on arrival. Lots of factors involved with that, up to and including the mood of the immigration officer when you arrive.

It's okay

a lot of people think that ;)

You are totally confusing a "visa on arrival" with a "visa exempt entry" :(

People from 21 countries BUY a 15 day visa on arrival for 2000baht when they enter the country,

people from 50+ countries get a visa exempt entry for free when they stamp in and people from 44 of those can only get two 30 day visa exempt entries by land in a calendar year :) .

USA is not eligible for a Visa on Arrival, so not on this list. USA passport holders get a 30 day Visa Exempt Entry if they show up without a Visa, but are limited to twice a Calendar year as you can see in my previous comment.

@Robert ******
yes for the first one, but, she's talking about multiple times.

Also that list is very incomplete.

USA among others not there.

The people from 21 countries who do need the Visa on Arrival can cross the border, pay the 2.000 Thb for the Visa and get 15 days of Stay. Nothing to do with the mood of the Immigration Officer. This is the list of these countries:

Strangely I have friends who live in Cambodia with business visas. They cross the land border dozens of times a year to go to Bangkok (a group of 4 is a lot cheaper via taxi). They never get stopped because they only ever stay a few days.

Yeah my thai GF mostly use her ID card to go to neighbor country, but the number of days is limited.

Neighboring countries can cross as many times as they like, and can also enter using their ID card (with some restrictions).

The countries also let Thais do that too (I know Laos and Myanmar do)

Without a Visa and having a business visa makes the difference.

It is only limited by 2 land border crossings a calendar year if you cross without any visa using the Visa Exempt Entry and only for these countries. There are no other limitations set by Government.

Thank you Robert

Every Visa Exempt Entry can be Extended once with 30 days, check the prices. Extension of Stay cost 1.900 Thb or flight to Penang for new one.

This could be a problem for me.

This year I have had 3 exemptions 30 day and flew back to UK each time to renew on return to Thailand.

I had a visit to Thai office in patong for 1 30 day extension and when that ran out I flew to penang for a day and got another 30 day extension which is about to expire soon.

What should my next step be to get another 30 days. Another trip to the patong office or another journey to penang?

I do have proof of residency and not short of cash if that helps

Official there is no limitation other than the one I showed, but as you know the final decision is made by the Immigration Officer at the checkpoint. If you go and come back using back to back Visa Exempt entries or Tourist Visa, the officer will start asking questions.

hi Robert.....does this mean that for malaysians, they are not limited to 2 land border crossings per year?

Thanks, cool if they have no limitations for flying in. Because someone told me you can only enter like 6 times on a stamp in total so I was confused. Also here the Russian federation is not stated on the list but I've been told at the border russians have a limitation of 2 border-runs per year as well...
